I found this place today as I was looking to get some lunch. I passed by and thought I should check it out. I love books and I enjoy a treat now and again. Circled the block, stopped in and was blown away.
They make their own chocolate and do pastries on the weekends. There are hundreds of classic books on the shelves for sale, as well as some albums (vinyl) for sale. Some very comfy and unique furnishings and decorations set the tone for a comfortable and laid back atmosphere.
Eric, one of the proprietors I believe, explained to me the process they use to get the chocolate created and showed me the large jar of cocoa beans they use. He was super awesome and clearly knowledgeable about his craft, he definitely has a passion for it and lots of artistic talent, as you will notice by the hand crafted forms they use for their chocolates. Really nice guy as well.
Looked up at the menu and holy smoke, they got coffee too! I think I found heaven on earth. Coffee, chocolate and books? Does it really get any better? Unfortunately I couldn't get decaf today because their machine wasn't working, but hopefully will be available next time. I did get a hot cocoa and it was amazing. I will be trying the white chocolate hot cocoa the next time I go.
Like I told them today, I think I may go broke at this place because I enjoy it so much. \0/
Gonna be bringing friends and family back with me as...
Read moreA wonderful place to go for quick treat, or a comfy chair and a slow afternoon sipping coffee enjoying artisanal deserts. The atmosphere is as whimsical as their literary themed treats; it's easy to get lost in a book and forget you are in Cowlitz County altogether. The staff is warm, welcoming, and full of the same joy that seems to swirl around the shop from every nook and cranny. Don't be fooled by the meticulously arranged decor- usually this would spell disaster for people with young children. On the contrary; this shop welcomes kids to come and enjoy- with a small table and chairs, along with an assorted bin of toys- kids can find something to work on allowing parents a few minutes to unwind with their beverage of choice (they serve wine). Didn't bring a book? No problem- borrow one from the shelf- love the book? They are for sale and can be had for less than you might think given their vintage covers and specialty feel. So come check them out! Shops like this seem to foreshadow a new downtown for Longview; one that creates a sense of pride in your community. I hope to see more like this spring up bringing a much needed liveliness to...
Read moreWill not be back or recommend this place. Bought 2 chocolate covered marshmallow on graham cracker crust at $6.50 each. Absolutely inedible. The "marshmallow" was more like a stale gummy bear. Not fluffy or soft at all. like rubber. The crust tasted like a ginger bread cookie, not the graham cracker crust and homemade marshmallow as described. I tasted it as did my husband and had to throw it as well as the other one away. When I called to tell them, I was told, "I'll cut into one here and if they are bad we will pull them". That was it. No offer to replace or refund my money. I understand baking can have mishaps but the total lack of customer service is sad. Too bad, they could have made it right and had a loyal customer. *Updat- after posting this review I received a phone call with them saying that yes indeed something had gone wrong with the batch and they were bad. That they were refunding the cost of those, so that's...
