Cafe Nur — Restaurant in Los Altos

I never take the time to write reviews but this place is so scammy. I went there many times over the Summer after hiking and enjoyed the food, but every time I ordered I noticed the mismatch of price/item but just brushed it off. Last time I was there, I asked about it and the guy at the register (owner, perhaps) was really weird and rude about it.

Now I understand their operation. They sneakily charge you for the "special" version of whatever you order and then charge you $3 on top of that each, for a couple tablespoons of tzatziki or hummus or another $3 for a few olives. There are 3 different chicken salads on the menu at the register for a reason, so if you ask for a regular salad with chicken, they can just charge you for the most expensive one and for add-ons on top of that, which should come with a "special" anyway.

I'm bummed because the food is genuinely great, but I don't make much money as it is, so being scammed like that regularly while I'm trying to support a local business feels awful. If they didn't pull stuff like this, they would have a lot more regulars. I...

Very good Mediterranean food in the heart of downtown Los Altos. The owner, Yusuf, is very nice and personable, and an excellent cook. I go there for the excellent chicken shish and salmon, plus the Turkish cardamom tea (tasty!). BUT, be aware that their hours can be a bit of a guessing game. IOW, their listed hours on the Internet or even on their front door are usually wrong. For instance, online it says they close at 10PM on Fridays and Saturdays. I go there on a Saturday night at 8:15, and am told, sorry, we’ve already turned the grills off. Perhaps call first if you’re going to go after 8PM (or before 11AM, reading some other reviews here). Great food, awesome people. We went there during a random walk in Los Altos, we were so delighted! We liked it so much we actually ordered for another meal to go as well!
