For those of you who like Paris Baguette type Asian bakeries you will love Satura. My Korean friends who are fans of Paris Baguette love this place so I gave it a 3 star. I prefer traditional French patisseries so it's more of a 1 star for me. We did try 4 different times, just because we live in the area, and are in Los Altos downtown eating several times a week. The last time we tried a fresh Tiramisu (we checked that it was sold out two days before so we knew it was relatively fresh), almond croissant, coffee bun, and some savory items. None of them rang our bells, not worth the calories. The tiramisu looked pretty but was just a lot of dense cream. Almond croissant not flaky but plenty of almond cream. The coffee buns are our favorite of the bunch, since we like Korean mocha bread. Husband was not happy to find that savory items like the ham and cheese croissant, bacon leek scone, had a sweet taste. Beware freshness levels. Long lines don't mean everything is sold out that day. Especially the cookies and cakes are only replaced on certain days when they run out I guess. If you want to be sure, go on an afternoon to see what they are sold out of. Then the next day they are likely to have fresh ones. On a weekday morning for example we got a rancid doughnut. The doughnut wasn't freshly fried, nor was the oil used good quality. It didn't even look good, but we naively assumed everything was freshly baked that morning (it isn't) and we tried it thinking it may taste better than it looked due to all the rave reviews. I also ordered a dino cake (sorry, I had pics but got deleted) for a baby birthday party and everyone loved it. The frosting is light. I am not a fan of strawberry shortcake to begin with, and felt that it wasn't fresh. There was some slight bleeding of the eye decoration. Assuming they assemble them a couple of days before and refrigerate them until pickup. Also, while the concept of animal theme cake is cute, the cake decorating skills could have been better. It's very basic, like a supermarket birthday cake level. I know this is Silicon Valley but for almost a hundred, you would think you could get a...
Read moreSatura Cakes makes amazing cakes. We ordered our wedding cake and bite sized cake pieces from them for our wedding last year in November.
We met with Sharon in advance for a cake tasting session where she gave us a selection of 8 different bite sized cakes to try. She advised us on the different options they have on wedding cakes and gave some good recommendation on how to present the cakes at the wedding reception. We opted for an acrylic cake tower that worked wonderfully when serving the cakes to our guests.
Our wedding cake was a two-tiered red velvet cake with white cream frosting. It had a cake topper that we provided and a picture made with edible print on edible paper (also provided by us) as well as some writing. For the bite sized pieces, we ordered strawberry shortcake, passion cream, classic chocolate and tiramisu.
These cakes were amazing. Everything was so tasty and our guests loved it. The two-tiered cake was supposed to serve 16 people and we had 80 bite sized cakes in addition to it. With 40 guests at the party, we had only a few leftovers which made for a tasty and sweet breakfast the day after. What I mostly like about their cakes is that they are not awfully sweet like a lot of cakes here in the States. They have just the right amount of sweetness and come with a lot of flavor.
The pricing was totally affordable and we were able to pick the cakes up in the morning on the day of our wedding.
All in all, I can highly recommend Satura Cakes. Not only for wedding cakes but also for visiting their store in downtown Los Altos which we do...
Read moreWe stopped by Satura on New Year's Eve on a whim. It's located in a cute downtown area and there was plenty of parking available (I think there was a lot of parking because most shops were closed for the holiday). Satura has a little bit of outdoor seating but there is none indoors. The pastry case had individual sized desserts and some larger cakes available. We got a vanilla custard filled choux bun, individual mont blanc, and individual yuzu passion. We also got a chocolate covered croissant. Ordering and check out was quick. They also have coffee drinks but we didn't try any. The chocolate covered croissant was a fun take on a croissant. The croissant wasn't the crispiest/flakiest croissant I've ever had but it was decent and fun to have it completely coated in chocolate. The cream puff and mont blanc were ok but we loved the yuzu passion. It has a strong yuzu flavor and a wonderful crunch from the hazelnut layer. I enjoyed getting some of the individual desserts for sampling. If I were in the area, I would stop by again to try...
