As a huge matcha and coffee lover and someone who spends a lot of time exploring cafes, Archives Of Us has become my #1 spot in LA. I've been to countless cafes across the city (and around the world), and I can confidently say that no other place comes close to the quality and experience Archives Of Us offers.
Their ceremonial grade matcha is truly next level. It's harvested straight from Kagoshima, Japan, and they use their own sourced matcha. The care and integrity behind their ingredients are evident in every sip. Whether you're ordering a classic matcha latte or one of their creative drinks, it's always perfectly balanced--earthy, smooth, and never bitter. Even the different types of milks they offer are top-tier where you can find from LA's finest grocery stores like Erewhon. Honestly, their matcha drinks are even better than any I've had in Japan!
But it doesn't stop there--their coffee is just as impressive, made with premium beans and the same attention to detail. You can tell every aspect of the menu is crafted with thought and intention. The food is another standout. Every dish I've tried has been flavorful, beautifully presented, and made with the same commitment to quality.
What also sets Archives Of Us apart is the space itself. It's stunning--airy, thoughtfully designed, and filled with natural light. There's plenty of seating, making it ideal whether you're meeting a friend, working solo, or just looking for a peaceful spot to recharge. It's one of those rare places that feels both inspiring and cozy.
The staff is incredible. I'm always greeted with warm smiles and genuine energy. The team makes you feel truly welcome, which just elevates the whole experience.
Archives Of Us isn't just a cafe--it's a full experience. The drinks, food, ambiance, and service make it 5 stars. If you love matcha, amazing coffee, and beautiful, intentional spaces, this is the...
Read moreIn my short 3 day trip to LA, my friends and I visited here twice. The first time, I tried the Matcha Einspanner and it was a harmonious balance of where sweet creaminess meets matcha’s richness. This was the first thing I had in the morning, and it started off my day wonderfully. I had to try more so I also got a cortado, and the milk to espresso ratio was phenomenal and the espresso pulled just right, drawing out all the flavors of the beans. This is not one of those spots where you just grab and go on to the next busy stop in your day. It's more like the destination, the highlight of your day, where you think, sit and take in the atmosphere. Where you can sip on your drink as a well deserved pat on the back to yourself for living the life you've been living.
I went with several friends and one was hungover and could not stomach anything, so only naturally, we came back the next day so he could experience it too. The next day, I had to order the Matcha Einspanner again and an espresso on the side so I could get taste just the espresso itself, and again, they did not disappoint. I've been to numerous cafes in Italy, Korea, Colombia, U.S., but the matcha here is unmatched and the espresso is world class.
The service of the team is a quiet friendliness, where it feels they don't care what your job is or where you're going, but rather invite you into their home and treat you as an esteemed guest. The ambiance and sounds create a serene space, gentle on the eyes and ears.
As I sit and write this, I miss the matcha flavors of AOU and I'm looking forward to the next excuse to have a trip to LA so I can enjoy those...
Read moreThe cafe occupied the second floor of an apartment building at the hear of Chinatown. Worry not, they had very clear directional sign to guide you finding the cafe. The attendant said they're still working with the apartment to figure out parking validation so for now, it's pretty easy to find a parking spot in the building but it costed $3 for first hour and $3.5 incremental per 15mins.
The space was huge and super convenient, providing both indoor and outdoor options. As they're still 1 week old, food menu was still limited to Canele, available in 4 flavors; vanilla, chocolate, matcha, and earl grey. The stocks ran out pretty fast but I was quite fortunate to get one of the last few pieces. I tried the matcha one, which was pretty good, but slightly less buttery then I expected. It has that perfectly crispy skin and gooey center. Tad pricey being at $5 for the size IMO.
Their signature drinks were the einspanner, available in coffee and matcha. However, I was more intrigued by the Madagascar Vanilla latte, given some reviews said their housemade vanilla was great. First sip and I could tell the coffee was superb, being aromatic and bold. It featured slightly acidic flavor, which I typically dislike, but this one seemed to be an exception. Milk substitution was available at extra charge.
I could see myself coming back for sure, especially I really appreciated the extremely warm service delivered by every single attendant and barista. Be prepared that it might take awhile to get your order ready, but I thought it's kinda understandable given they just...
