So I have to start with the fact that I've recently been to their Newport Beach location and really enjoyed the food and location. So I thought I'd visit their location in Woodland Hills.
To start, I thought they had several wild caught options. The worker told me that they only have 2 wild caught options, the ahi ahi tuna, and can't recall the other. I was too disappointed to even listen when I heard her say 2. Because I asked her why the menus don't indicate which dishes are wild caught.
Then, as we are ordered, the cooks shout no more white rice. That's what I love to have with my fish! How does a restaurant run out of RICE??? That's beyond embarrassing. It's like McDonald's running out of fries.
Then, we get a text that our food is ready only to find our it's not and that their system went down and texted everyone that their food was ready when it wasn't. They asked us and everyone else for a receipt, but we didn't select the option to have the kiosk print a receipt.
After checking a couple more times, 2 of our 3 dishes were ready, and they said they would bring us the 3rd dish.
The sea bass I ordered was overcooked and stiff. The dining room was a mess. Many tables had trash or dishes on them, etc. This location just seems so poorly run. After having just been to their NB location, I would have thought that these 2 locations can't be the same company!! Just a mess...
Read moreSuch a disappointment. Where do I begin??? The ordering is super chaotic. You have a kiosk and someone behind the register rushing you to order. I should have left right there. I decided to stick it out, as it was my first time there. I ordered the fried shrimp plate with fries and kale coleslaw and was talked into ordering the coconut shrimp. I was with a friend and was on the same ticket as them. My order was up first and had been sitting under the heat lamp for over 10 minutes while they were preparing my friends plate. After realizing it was mine sitting under there, I went up asked and they verified it was mine. The shrimp was so greasy and had started to get soft from sitting there. The fries weren't really fries. They were soaked in oil and super soggy. It left a coating in my mouth that was super unpleasant. No matter how much iced tea I drank, I couldn't get rid of it. The kale coleslaw was wilted, warm and to be honest disgusting. The coconut shrimp was something else, I don't know what kind of herbs they use in it but it also had black sesame seeds in it and made it look like it wasn't deveined. There were more black sesame seeds than shrimp. I would have complained but at the end of the day it wouldn't have been worth it. I wouldn't have eaten it if they remade it. Long story short, I will...
Read moreFresh and delicious would be an understatement. At California Fish Grill, the seafood is treated with such skill and respect that each bite feels like a small celebration of the ocean. I ordered the salmon, and it was perfection. Moist, flaky, and full of flavor, each forkful practically melted as the seasoning gave way to a satisfying citrus kissed finish.
The staff were warm and efficient, adding to the overall ease and enjoyment of the visit.
There is plenty of seating, and I appreciated the thoughtful layout that made it accessible for those with mobility concerns.
Parking can be a bit of a challenge during peak lunch hours, but with a little patience, you will find a spot. Once inside, it is well worth the effort.
Best suited for a small group of four, it makes for an ideal weekday lunch outing that is quick, nourishing, and never short on flavor.
Two thumbs up for freshness, service, and value.
