Please be patient, this is a long review. Let me start off saying I’m usually not one to write reviews, but I just had to share my negative experience today. Meanwhile, please don’t come here with your families, the food will actually make you sick. I am writing a serious review because I am concerned for people’s health. I will never step into their establishment and will tell everyone I know not to eat at this restaurant ever. I need the restaurant owner to know how badly they are running their restaurant. I am attaching proof of purchase for legitimacy.
Me, my sister and my dad came out for a nice lunch to eat some biriyani yesterday (Sat ~ 11:35) This was probably the worst mistake ever because I’m still suffering from the health consequences the next day. At the iPad kiosk, the biriyanis we wanted to order were showing as sold out. We asked the only girl working at the store from the register if the biriyanis were already sold out at 11:30? This was weird. She said whatever food is showing on the iPad is what’s available. We started looking at the menu for other foods. But after 5 mins, she came back and told us to check the iPad again to order for what we inquired about. So we changed our order and ordered the biriyanis. After we got the food, both biriyanis were smelling just a little weird, like reheated old food. There was an obvious smell, or least it didn’t smell like it was made recently.
That should have been my first warning but I didn’t think too much out of it and we started eating. But we couldn’t finish even one of the ordered dishes, we just lost our appetite. So we went straight home to save the food to eat later. My stomach was uneasy so I didn’t immediately eat the food at home. We put the food in the fridge for max 1 hour and when I took both biriyanis out and reheated them, it had such a bad stench, it made me gag. The food had actually went bad, and I had to throw it the trash outside my house.
Not even 30 mins after that, all three of my family members, including myself, threw up and had an upset stomach for rest of the evening. None of us had dinner, we were so uneasy and felt sick. I ended up waking three times during the night because I had an upset stomach, my stomach was burning and I felt like throwing up even more. Still now, this morning when I’m writing this review, my stomach burns so bad and I feel sick. I am considering going to urgent care if I don’t feel better in a few hours.
I know this was the only food to cause these symptoms because we didn’t have anything before the restaurant and didn’t eat anything after the restaurant. I’m extremely disappointed in the exploitation of the owners by serving the customer not just bad food, but unsafe food. So overall, we paid $85 dollars to end up throwing the food away and suffering from pain.
Summarized Review: Apollo Fish Fry - (so much Red 40 food coloring that it’s bound to cause stomach problems)
Butter Chicken Masala —- (it was fine)
Garlic Naan - (it was rubbery, but fine in the spiel of things)
Thalappakatti Goat Biryani - (served us biriyani that was on the verge of spoiling)
Natu Kodi Chicken Biryani — (served us biriyani that was on the verge...
Read moreChennai Tiffins used to have a location in Cerritos CA, and it was one of my all time favorite restaurants. I was finally in Woodland Hills today, and was ecstatic to try this location as I expected it would also be amazing. We entered and noticed that they have a B rating. We ordered the gobi manchurian and the palak paneer dosa. My husband asked the waitress if the filling was the same as the palak paneer entree, to which the waitress looked at him like he was asking if he could borrow money. He rephrased the question and was told that it was indeed the same. Our order came and the dosa was filled with dry minced paneer (looked more like eggs), and dry spinach? It was not clear what the filling actually was, but it was absolutely nothing like what you would expect when ordering palak paneer. The gobi Manchurian was half onions and bell peppers and half cauliflower. The waitress never checked on us again or asked how anything was, and there was only one other party dining in. I noticed halfway through the meal that my fork was dirty, and had a piece of old cilantro stuck to the handle. At that point I was thoroughly unhappy and wanted to leave. So we went up to pay and were told our total was $29.00. No receipt was shown or offered (highly suspicious) and when I paid with $40 cash the waitress took the money and said “tip?”. My jaw almost hit the floor. I was paying cash and there was a tip jar right in front of me. I couldn’t believe she would ask for a tip directly when the tip jar was an inch away from me. I always tip, even if the service is poor, but please never ask for a tip, especially when you offered no service to me. I should have just lived with the fond memories of the Cerritos locale, but lesson learned. Extremely sad and...

Cue dramatic background music…
I walked into Chennai Tiffin like a man on a mission—hungry, hopeless, and haunted by the ghost of yesterday’s frozen pizza. But then… BOOM! The aroma hit me like a Rajnikanth punch—powerful, precise, and straight to the soul.
Non-Veg Thali. Brothers and sisters, what a lineup! Chicken curry that slapped harder than a Tollywood hero’s intro fight. Chicken 65 that could make even a strict vegetarian question their life choices. Egg curry so good, it felt like my taste buds were doing the kuthu dance. Sevaiya and roti playing side roles perfectly, and then—entry of Rasam! That rasam wasn’t just soup, it was a life reset. And just when I thought the movie (I mean, meal) was over… Sambar climax twist!
Plenty of rice. Raita like comic relief. Papad? Crunch level: 100. I couldn’t finish it all. This thali defeated me fair and square.
I don’t know why I don’t come here more often. This place deserves a standing ovation—or at least a loyal weekday lunch audience. For all the times you don’t want to cook or want to feel like your stomach just got a warm hug from South India—Chennai Tiffin is THE place.
