Not a big coffee fan, but I can really appreciate latte art!
The storefront is located in the Sawtelle area by Blockheads and other popular restaurants. There are a few tables outside in the patio area, but there are plenty of seats inside the restaurant as well. The menu is fairly simple, with drinks and pastries that you order at the cashier. They will call out your order when it is ready.
Prices are not too bad considering the area that Coffee Tomo is located in. I tried the Tomo Latte (essentially a Spanish Latte) and the cinnamon pretzel. The latte was really good and very similar to Urthe's. The coffee art on top made it extra tasty.
My friend ordered their popular sweet potato and cheese pretzel which was around $5-$6. I decided to order a simple cinnamon sugar pretzel, about $3-$4. The sweet potato pretzel looked humongous and delicious as it came out of the oven. The sweet potato cheese filling is wrapped into the bread, so when you take a bite out of the bread, the filling just oozes out. And it's not too heavy at all. There's enough sweet potato and cheese flavor that goes well with the pretzel. I definitely think it's worth the price.
My pretzel, however ... was a big letdown. I expected it to be just as thick as the sweet potato and cheese pretzel, but it was so skinny and thin. It basically was just a thin bread dipped in cinnamon sugar, but the sugar did not stick onto the bread. So essentially it was just a plain pretzel (kind of crispy due to the thinness) with some cinnamon sugar at the bottom of the basket. I don't think paying around $4 was worth it since my pretzel didn't have any taste.
They do offer free Wi-Fi. I think Coffee Tomo is a great place to sit and work (but it can get a little loud), catch up with friends, or people watch. I definitely will be back if I'm...
Read moreToday when I ordered my coffee and some pretzels to go, we sat down to wait for it. After 5 min or so I went up to the counter to see if the coffee was ready. The three baristas looked surprised that I was asking and it quickly became apparent that the tan male guy had forgotten to make the drink. One of the women looks annoyed like this happens a lot and starts to make it for him, and he comes over to her and apologizes to HER while I stand there waiting, and starts talking to her about how the reason he forgot to make the drink is he was distracted by his own conversation with the other barista about a call from their boss about why he was late to work this morning. So he forgot to make my drink, apologized to his co worker instead of me, and explained with a laugh that it's because he's already so bad at his job he can't show up...
Read moreIt's a decent coffee shop with quality food and drinks.
You have to try their red bean and cheese pretzel! It sounds gross but I really enjoyed it. It's like eating a sweet red bean pretzel with a gooey texture with a subtle saltiness. The cheese is very light. It went well with my seasonal (?) pumpkin spice latte :)
If you want a latte with cute lil drawings, ask them ahead of time and keep in mind that not all lattes come with cute drawings. I was bummed that they couldn't draw on mine because my latte was white :( My friend changed his drink order so they could draw on it. Unfortunately they only drew a heart.
Great place to chat with friends and study.
