This place is such a gem…I was involuntarily dancing with how good all of it was, as were all my friends. I’ve eaten a lot of pupusas and these are my new favorites. This is definitely already a favorite spot in general now.
The queso, loroco, and jalapeño pupusas are outstanding. Every bite was a joy. I also had fried cassava with molasses, the texture is outstanding, it goes from hot and super uniquely crunchy to kind of warm and gooey, perfect amount of sweet. The potato empanadas were great too but I was already pretty stuffed from the rest. Do yourself a favor and order the maracuyá juice…super authentic and delicious. Maybe the guava juice, but personally I think maracuyá is the best, especially for a first one to try (context: three months or more trying all the juices I could in Central/South America).
I have a sneaking suspicion that everything here is excellent. I’m waiting to try to Rellenos de Guisquil when the only cook that can make them gets back. There are many things here I’ve never heard of, even after years of trying Salvadorian restaurants, and they all sound amazing. To me, this is a mark of an authentic restaurant serving food with love.
I haven’t even gotten to the vibes. The decor and paint and everything just feels really sweet, peaceful, homey, simple but pretty…welcoming, clean, good energy. It’s a really nice spot to eat incredible food with friends or family, have some beers, have some fresh juices, it’s just so nice, inside or outside. Such nice vibes, and all the staff is super sweet and feel like they love what they do, and are very close. I was charmed hearing them cracking each other up and laughing wildly in the back on my first visit. Lots of smiles and jokes.
I can’t recommend this place highly enough. I’m still actively stuffed and I already...
Read moreMy parents are both Salvadorean...I never liked Salvadorean food, so I don't eat, I do however eat my mom's pupusas. In fact it's the only pupusas I can say I truly genuinely enjoy!
A few months ago I read and article that named this place as one of the top 10 best pupusa places in LA (for context, I grew up down the street from this place, I never went, they were never on my radar because again I don't eat Salvadorean food) So being the curious person that I am I decided to go with my little partner in crime (my mama). The pupusas were spectacular! A close second to my mom's, that was about 2 months ago, I've been there 3 more times since. Yes! The pupusas are that awesome.
On one of my trips I met the owner and I just had to tell her about the article I read and how I completely agreed with their pupusas being soo good! She couldn't have been more gracious, she shared a bit of the history of the place and let me just say that her attitude only solidified my excitement for this place. Needless to say my mom and I are already talking about going back! (These days my mom isn't to much in the mood to be making pupusas). So whenever a craving hits I know where I can have pupusas that have my...
Read moreThis restaurant has been one of my favorites for so many years. I moved to the East Coast, and every time I visited LA, this is, if not my first stop, it would be my second, I came to visit as I said my first stop, Cojutepe, popusas for sure. This time, everything was different, expensive, pupusas with a little bit of filling, most likely just dough, little bowl with curtido, the refresco just water and sugar. I don't know if change of ownership or new cookers, but for sure I never get back...
