Accidentally Found Deliciousness — El Torito

We tried the Sunday Brunch at El Torito in Woodland Hills. While they do offer a variety of dishes, it was not as great as I expected, especially for the price ($31 adult, $12 kids) They seemed unsure whether kids is 12 years and below, or 11 years old and below. They appeared to go by how big your 12 year old is whether to charge adult or kids price. Anyway, their a la carte entrées always had great flavor. Perhaps the food being out too long at the buffet stations diminished the quality of the food a bit. It's not bad, just doesn't seem to justify paying $31 for. I've had better machaca at school fiestas, tastier chile colorados at work, and more delicious ceviches at hole in the wall places, and not as expensive. One thing that was really good was the caramelized bananas mixed with vanilla ice cream. I don't eat ice cream much but this was a welcome surprise. Service was good, as buffet servers were helpful and attentive. They had plastic dividers at their buffet stations, and servers handle your food all throughout. Our waitress even brought us churro pancakes we didn't ask for. Might be better to go earlier when the food is fresh out of the kitchen, you just have to deal with a busier buffet. They also have a bar so it's a good place to watch sports and have drinks.

Our holiday dinner at El Torito turned out to be a delightful surprise, especially considering it was Christmas day. Despite the bustling crowd, we were seated within 15 minutes of our reservation, and the festive atmosphere added to the holiday spirit. El Torito lived up to its reputation, offering the familiar and comforting Mexican fare we expected. The guacamole made fresh at our table, coupled with yummy margaritas, bottomless chips, and salsa, set the perfect tone for a family-friendly dining experience. What made it even better was the affordability that El Torito consistently delivers. Even with the holiday rush and what seemed like a shortage of staff, our waiter hustled to ensure our party was well attended to. It was heartwarming to see the dedication despite the challenges. The presence of multiple screens playing the football game made the experience even more enjoyable, especially for my dad and brother who appreciated the view from our table. Overall, El Torito provided a warm and inviting setting for a holiday meal, with the staff's hard work shining through. A fine time indeed, with good food, family, and a touch of holiday cheer.

We made reservations for the Branch on 12/12/2021 online. On the way to the restaurant, I received a cancelation notice in my email. My wife submitted reservations one more time. A few minutes later, it came as canceled again. We came to the restaurant on time and spoke to the hostess at the entrance. She was not able to help but instead told us because we did it a few times and the system failed, she would sit us not in the area where brunch is but by the bar. I was stunned. Two adults and 16 yr old whose b/day we came to celebrate by the bar? Even this was not the worst of the visit to El Torito. Based on government requirements, all restaurants should be checking for Vacations. That never happened. They let us in WITHOUT CHECKING VACCINATIONS. When we went to get food, I was reprimanded by one of the workers to put the mask on. when I told her I was fully vaccinated and had Covid already, the manager showed up and, in a very argumentative tone of voice, told me: " if you don't like it, LEAVE." I tried to keep my cool not to ruin the kid's 16th birthday. I informed the manager that rules and regulations for COVID were not enforced at the entrance and walked to our table. My wife was disgusted by the manager as he walked by our table speaking Spanish and laughing with other workers of the EL TORITO looking at us. We paid the bill and left. I have not been insulted like this by the establishment's MANAGEMENT before. We have been customers of EL Torito for over 25 yrs, but there is a first time...

Nice location yes, food yeah was good food, prices ?? Hmmm a little expensive but I understand now why do i give 2 stars? The experience. I took my 80 year old aunt and my cousin for Mother's day at 9 am first you find a girl at the door, you may thing she is greeting ppl well no, i said good morning her answer for how many? When a customer approach u, greet them first, be polite, if for any reason u don't feel good that day talk to ur supervisor maybe the can assign u a different responsibility for the day. But if u r going to be at the door make sure u really want to be there. That day was only available the buffet so that was great for us, went got our food, ordered some coffee we ate, waitress super nice. When we finish our food my my cousin and decided to get 2 horchatas for to go. We did that and before we leave we ask politely to the waitress if we could get 2 foam cups to take our drinks and she went for it and came back with the news that the manager said that we cannot take out horchatas to go. Ok I totally understand that if you are in a buffet some places don't allow you to take your food to go I get that there is ppl that abuse but 2 drinks ? Are you serious ? After paying more than $30 per plate ? I think this is ridiculous. We end up leaving the 2 horchatas because we already ate and we were full. Now am I coming back? Of course no the good thing about living here is that we can find Mexican restaurant...

This was a horrible experience me and two friends went for happy hour and let me tell you it was not so happy. We went there to have some drinks and some food and then jam out. But when we got our seats we found out that the happy hour prices could not be given to us there we had to relocate to the bar area witch was crazy but we went. When we got there the waitress was going to sit us next to a screaming kid. I said no we went to the other side of the bar and sat down and started asking about the happy hour special and let me tell you that was a joke. They not had one mix drink and like one or two beers that was some what a deal. We ordered our drinks and got them pretty quick but that was all we got for 25 minutes. I finally asked our waitress can we order and then she told us the system was down. Well we have been waiting that whole time when the computer system was working and never took our order. We waited a little longer and we had to final go and asked what was going on. I asked for the manager and and asked why was it taking so long when we have been sitting there when the system was up and running and got no service. The people that where in front of us and behind us were equally up set and and I asked then if they had been helped and they hadn't. They were very poor service and will not be going back...
