Tomoya Sushi & Izakaya — Restaurant in Los Angeles

Came here on a Saturday night, party of 2, around 7:30 and we got seated right away. I noticed it got busier around 8:30. We ordered Yellowtail Sashimi, and it seemed fresh, though the slices were a bit thicker than we are used to for sashimi. It looked like they messed up our tuna maki roll by putting way too much rice, and then not enough tuna, and then putting some random pieces of tuna on top? The salmon maki roll was better. The Albacore Lover was my least favorite item. The spicy tuna wasn't very good, and the raw onions on top didn't really add anything to the roll. Also the ponzu sauce on the bottom didn't do anything for the dish since the spicy tuna was so spicy. The spicy tuna crispy rice was great. I would probably go back just for that. Also on the menu/table cards they wrote in a bunch of discounts and when we got our bill, we didn't see any discounts so that was either false advertising or they didn't clarify when those discounts were available. It ended up being a pretty expensive meal for two people. Overall, I'd say it's a decent spot to try with family, but research the dishes/prices beforehand. The best thing I can say about this restaurant is about the server, Donay. She was so attentive to my colleague and me. She made us feel as though we were celebrities. The food was good. Not exceptional but still refreshing. The meat dish tasted good but a tad tough The atmosphere was ok. Furniture and ambience is dated. The wood deck outside had almost half of the entire deck color peeling terribly . I was surprised by the headress of a staff member who dressed up in a comical way. guess it's cultural but it fell flat. Another staff member was banging on a gong to emphasize the celebration. We ordered online for pick up and paid three digits $ for 3 rolls like Rainbow , Philadelphia , and hidden dragon, 2 sashimi, 1 gyoza! Now i would not even think about the price if the experience was extraordinary. Since we really like high quality food and never regret what we pay for it! The disappointment started with packaging, when i saw them in white foam take out packages crammed in a cheap thin plastic bag that were tied at the top! Everything was so tasteless and bad looking that i felt so embarrassed next to my friend since I wanted to have a nice dinner takeout at home. I made the table ready with my nice plates etc. before food arrived and not even my nice table setting made the food look good. Sashimis were embarrassingly bad! So did 3 rolls!
