Hands down, one of the best restaurants in El Sereno. You want tacos? They’ve got you. You want fine dining? They’ve got you (look out on their IG for upcoming Kamikaze nights). You want vegetarian? They’ve also got you. You want a death/goth/punk/metal theme with music? Say less. Evil Cooks is a one-of-a-kind experience with amazing service and food. I’m one of the lucky ones that lives close by, and we come here at least 1-2x a month. I’ve dined in, ordered take out, and joined in on one or their fine dining Kamikaze (their version of an Omakase) night— I know I’m always in good hands. There is street parking available, though it can be a little tricky because Eastern is a busy street. Be patient and don’t park at the liquor store next door because they’ll tow you!

We ventured out there, my son and I, this evening, as we were craving tacos. Upon arrival, the first thing we noticed was the long line. But as anyone in L.A. knows, long lines usually indicates that the food is worth waiting for. So we get in line and start discussing our order while we move along. We decided on the 3 taco combo, carnitas, chorizo Verde and black pastor. We also tried the vegan chicharron and for desert, the church taco. I couldn't have been any happier with the food. The tacos are amazing, generous portions of meat on hand made corn tortillas. The carnitas are tender flavorful, the chorizo pack just the right amount of spice and the pastor was moist and tender. Needless to say, we will definitely be returning in the near future.

Had the pleasure of experiencing " Evil Cooks" . Did not disappoint at all and has left me waiting for my next visit. As soon as you walk in you hear your classics of rock and roll, grunge, goth, and I wouldn't be surprised if they had Mexican rock as well, didn't hear any but the rotation speaks for itself, true to its name and to its style. With the tortillas black as the heart And a killer sauce to go along with it. The torta is what I will get next time and try the burritos and the back patio as well. Had three tacos and a tepache, which brought me back to my childhood memories, total came out to 30 bucks, tacos nice and hefty, I can't wait to go back and try out more of evil cooks.

This is another one of those places where you should probably get your reviews from actual food journalists and not from my random ramblings on Google.

But hey, if you're still reading, yeah, this is a fancy taqueria with creative tacos and exotic ingredients. The place plays metal (a surprisingly fun genre to eat tacos to) and has a black paint and skulls and coffins decorating theme.

The chefs who run it are supposedly famous (as chefs) if you're into that sort of thing.

The menu has both meat dishes and plant based dishes. The side of the menu with the meat dishes is labeled the "hell" menu, while the plant based side is labeled as the "heaven" menu. I ate strictly from the hell menu. It was delicious.

What surprised me was that one of my favorite tacos was a riff on the concept of a fast food cheeseburger, but in taco form. But I also enjoyed the all black goth taco made...
