First time/friends mentioned they wanted to go. The "doorman" was very unfriendly. Asked for our IDs (Im 40 gf is 35) but ok fine with that, could be a little bit more friendly and host like, handed us two menus and then just looked at us like we should leave.
We walk inside and grab a table, the place was not busy at all. Usually at pubs or restaurant, some one will eventually come around to see if you need anything so we sit down, after no one checking on us for about 45mins (friends were there by then so we were just catching up) I go to the bar wait another 15-20 mins and ask if there are servers or what the deal was. Bartender, also very rude (place still not busy) huffed and asked what we wanted. In the middle of us ordering, he walked away....
At this point we should have just left.
So we order and I hand my card over to pay. Another guy comes over to the bartender, asks for a recommendation, the bartender acted like the guy asked him to borrow money or something because he seemed very annoyed that the young man was asking for a recommendation on beers he never heard of. The poor guy quickly followed with "Im going to taste a bunch of beers, I just dont know any of these, Im sorry". Sorry, not all of us drink every beer known to man. personally Im not that picky and the BARTENDER should have apologized for being a jerk to a young patron.
We get our food about 45 mins later: Bone marrow, burgers all around, my gf had a steak, we also ordered asparagus.
Burgers were not seasoned, bread didnt go well with the burger and was just meh. fries were cold. Steak was not seasoned and meh. Asparagus was good but I got four for $17.00 I think Ill pass next time.
By the time the food came we were ready for more drinks, I got up (because theres no table service) stood at the bar like an idiot for another 20 mins (starting to pickup at this point), got our drinks and sat back down.
So then we wanted dessert and another drink...walked up to the bar.... waited 20 mins or so, ordered our dessert.....my friends dessert came about 20mins before ours which made the timing very awkward but ok.
This place has a lot of great reviews so Im not sure what the deal is. There are a lot of pubs and bars in Los Angeles that make you feel like family when you come in. For a place that is NO KETCHUP NO SUBSTITUTIONS, a little seasoning on the meat and customer service/experience along with a side of warm fries, excuse me frites would go A...
Read moreSo many people told me to try this place. I was shopping nextdoor with a friend and he asked the staff. 'where was a good place for lunch?' They recommended the hamburger. We met several other staff in our journey around the store and they all recommended the same place- Father's Office. So, we were starving and excited to try it. Walking in, we saw an amazing ing dish in a server's hand and immediately asked what it was- deviled eggs. We approached reception and were pointed street side and loved they had a lower garden area for dog parents. We had my friend's Yorkie with us so I found us a table while he went to order. I tried to find a chair that wasn't broken and a table that didn't wobble. Just about every chair was unraveled and, honestly, they were uncomfortable. The silver tables were dented and wobbled. I wanted to leave but my friend came out with a table flag and receipt. There were a lot of dog parents and the pets were calm and enjoying themselves. My friend upon seeing the condition of the tables and chairs went back to ask if we could sit at the tables on the porch or inside. She reluctantly agreed but even the concrete picnic tables were uncomfortable. He put the dog in the car and left it running g with AC on and we awaited this much anticipated food. The deviled eggs arrived first. He ate one and then asked me to try before making a comment. I nearly spit it out. So much pickle juice and a caper on top. I will never eat a deviled egg again. We pushed those to the side just as the buyers came. If you've not had a burger here, it is a surprise to get an oval bun with what appears to be Salisbury steak smothered in BBQ sauce and arugula. We each forced ourselves to eat half of our respective sandwiches. Neither of us like them. The flavors were all over the place and not harmonized at all. Lots of vinegar in the BBQ sauce echoed the deviled eggs we just passed on eating.
This was not going well. Then the fries he surprised me with arrived. These were cut down small and seasons so much, there was no potato taste. It was like the chef was trying way too hard. Both of us felt sick. He spoke with the manager who was kind enough to credit us for the uneaten food. We left feeling sick for the rest of the day. I would...
Read moreWell, well...the "gastropub" name is a well threaded label to cover some not so good ways of running the place. The place by itself has nothing special, a typical main coridor room around a long bar and another side/back area. No personality of the space, nothing to catch the eye or to remember from the design perspective...Restroom is really nice though, well designed, upscale. The patio is OK with simple long tables and long farm/church type benches, some propane heaters in the "winter" Not a cozy place, noisy. Location wise...sort of isolated from the main street, surrounded by some decor and furniture stores, valet parking available some 50 yards/meters from the restaurant, paid parking on the street (Venice blvd) The food, decent selection, carefully crafted but overhyped and grossly overpriced (rip off borderline) for the small size "european" size of the dish. And some weird policy I witnessed, they do not customized the dish based on the patrons taste/wishes. Hope that's not a policy dictated by the chef...Same pricey rule concept goes for drinks, expect to pay 10$ per glass of draft beer, without tip. Conclusion: nothing out of the ordinary, overhyped and overpriced, Great for cozy business meeting. Ok to bring your visiting Brooklin hip/ hypster cousin. Ok to grab and enjoy a craft beer or bring a date, or for small groups. Not a family place, family gatherings/ events. While is definitely worth a visit there are more places, more options within 3 minutes of driving, in Culver City downtown and ...
