Undoubtedly the worst possible sushi you can have in LA and possibly anywhere and I had sushi all over the world (Japan, Taiwan, US, China, Singapore, Malaysia, HK)
This restaurant purposely made their sushi extremely salty to hide the unfreshness and unsavoriness of their sushi.
I literally puked when I took bites of Amaebi and Scallop because they were so salty. The scallop and amaebi look so stale that they basically drenched them in salt so customers cant taste the foul meat.
I called the restaurant right after I starting eating the take-out and the waitress insisted it's their "style". What a Liar. And then she proceeded to hang up the phone.
The "style" she is allegedly referring is called "Pre-Edo". However, this restaurant abused this method to the max and just basically cured their sushi so they can sell customers in the weekend whatever they don't sell during weekday.
It makes me very angry and disgusted this restaurant is allowed to serve food, let alone sushi.
Seriously for your sake, I highly discourage anyone (even my enemy) to go to this restaurant. I really hope I am the last person to suffer the foul sushi of this place. Probably will take me years to forget the salty taste. You have been warned.
Backstory: I had visited this restaurant many years ago. It was ok back then. The chef was old and served decent fresh sushi. The new owner apparently has zero concern for customer's welfare and is only concerned selling whatever stale fish they can.
Hama is an unconscionable restaurant and should be banned.
As an acid test, I tried to feed the sushi to my dog and he wouldn't even go anywhere near it. He normally chows down ANYTHING I throw at him. He gave me his look like I tried...
Read moreI don't usually write reviews but I feel that I need to after the lackluster service my wife and I just experienced. My wife and I decided to try this sushi spot in the heart of Little Tokyo. There was a small line starting around 4:50pm so it must be good right? It is a small cozy little place so my wife and I anticipated great service. This place was the exact opposite. We were placed in the left corner of the sushi bar at around 7:30pm on Saturday 01/21/2023. There were 3 sushi chefs behind the counter. None of them made eye contact with me or my wife and barely acknowledged our entrance. I immediately felt an unwelcoming vibe. My wife is a native from Japan and I thought that was rather strange. I am also fluent in Japanese because my mother is Japanese. The sushi chef then just handed us a piece a paper and a pen. He still didn't say anything or greet us in the typical Japanese fashion. Again, no eye contact or welcoming tone because there were no words. We place our order and then we sit there for 15 minutes in dead silence. The sushi chef didn't even set our tables after 15 minutes of sitting directly in front of him. After about 20 minutes and 1 piece out of 5 served, I wanted to leave. We finished our sushi which was mediocre at best, and asked for the check. As we got up to leave, no "arigato gozaimasu" or anything. It was as if we didn't even exist. I am not sure why this sushi chef was so unwelcoming towards my wife and I. None the less, I will NEVER return to this spot again. If I am in town for business I will stick with Sushi Gen which is much better. You hear things like "irashaimase" and "arigato gozaimasu" with smiles and positive energy……..and Sushi Gen is down the steet so go...
Read moreI'm a huge sushi connoisseur, the sushi was absolutely amazing however the service was not. We walked in to put our name on the list because they don't take reservations. We were told that it would be 45 mins, we came back 45 minutes later and we're told that we needed to wait another 25 minutes, so we walked around and waited. When we came back for the third time we were told another 15 minutes. We reluctantly waited as we all really wanted to try the traditional sushi here. We were taken care of by a woman that turned very condescending quickly. She scolded me for having the wrong napkin on my lap, reached over grabbed it, folded it back up, and then put my soy sauce on top of it. There were other condescending things that she did ex: I asked for Tamago, she told me that they didn't serve that here. I asked why it was on the menu then. She told me it was called "omelette" something or other, when on the menu It's called Tamago 🙄 I don't understand how they're claiming to be a traditional Japanese sushi restaurant and the server didn't know what tamago is... In addition to that right when we sat down it was like she was hounding us to get our orders in when it wasn't anywhere near closing time. We told her that we needed a few minutes and she came back literally five times within about 10 minutes. She also forgot our drink order 2 times. Spent about $300 for amazing sushi, we thought about not tipping, but we aren't those ppl.. Bad service we won't be coming back. Disappointing to...
