Los Angeles Budget Bites: 8 Must-Try Eateries for Under $20

Overall: 4.2/5 (Postmates delivery) The food delivered earlier than expected. I liked the food but had better. However, I was able to get a huge chunk of my daily vegetable intakes from it so I'm happy. Doner Basket ($16.75): The portion is huge so we had leftovers enough for another meal. Their fried pita stick was hard so I wasn't a fan. You can customize your fries so we got mixed sweet potato and regular fries. The sweet potato fries are the waffle version and were clearly better than the regular fries where were starchy. We got beef, lamb, and chicken for our protein. Beef and lamb gyros were thinly sliced while the chicken was cut into cubes. The lamb didn't have a smell or gamey taste while the chicken was dry. I also didn't really like their falafel mix. The rest of the toppings went well with the salad. Street Cart Diner Wrap ($14.75): This was a big wrap that they cut in 2 for you; I ate one of the halves and was full. For my protein, I got beef, lamb, and chicken and felt that this wrap had more meat than veggies while the reverse is true for the Doner Basket. Nothing really stood to me about the wrap; everything blended in to create a homogenous wrap. I think there was a lot more flavors in the Doner Basket. Single Doquito ($7.50): This actually comes with 2 rolls and was the best item out of everything we ate. This is way better and like an elevated version of the Mexican taquito. A Doquito is a fried lavish bread rolled in feta, onion, and aioli. The flavors were on point and it was fried to perfection. It didn't get soggy even with all the additional toppings smothered on top.

Our search for Mediterranean food got us to Spitz in Little Tokyo. Surprisingly, I have crossed this place a couple of times and never tried it. The interiors are quite colorful, with almost a bar like feel. We were greeted by the staff who handed us a menu. You've have to order at the counter and the food arrives at your table. Since it was a Tuesday evening, they had happy hours for appetizers and drinks. It's was also game night and I must say, they had some great collection of games! We ordered Berliner fries, Street cart doner and Spicy Doner (both with chicken). The fries were delicious and crispy. It would definitely be a bang for your buck during happy hour. (I will come to that part in the end). Both Doners were huge! They seemed a bit dry but if you pair them with the sauces they have, it's pretty tasty. Okay tiny sad bit, when we checked our bill, the fries were not discounted (it was in the happy hour menu). Hence the -1 on the rating. Great meal otherwise! Would definitely come back here.

The Street Cart Doner Veggie Wrap Combo Meal which I paired with Waffle Potato Fries and Lemonade and a side of Cinnamon Sugar Pita Strips was very filling and hit the the spot.

A 4.5 because I pussied out with the veggie wrap. It tasted like your standard sauce wrap that had a variety of vegetables. It was good, but I should have tried something different with the quinoa. The vegan wrap options consist of falafel and quinoa, and I should have taken a chance with quinoa.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed the well-sized wrap. The waffle fries were also perfectly seasoned and the cilantro on top added a good balance to them. And the orange sauce is delicious! Reminds me of the sauce that comes with Chicken Places like Howlin' Ray's and Dave's Hot Chicken.

Lastly, those Cinnamon Sugar Pita Strips were GOOD! First bite, I wasn't messing with them. It gave flour, dough, and sugar, but after I got to the second stick, I really tasted them in their full nature.

All in all, I was impressed with this meal and I thoroughly enjoyed all the food passing my mouth for dinner. :)

February 5, 2022------------------------------ 4/5 stars

Big order and a flat 4 star rating this time.

I ordered: Cinnamon Sugar Pita Strips Baklava Nut Roll Street Cart Fry - Mixed Fries Style Vegan Wrap - Falafel & Quinoa

The Cinnamon Sugar Pita Strips are amazing as ever! I actually got the chocolate and icing this time, so those COMPLETELY added to the sweetness. I loved it. I never really eat desserts with my meals, but this was a grand treat!

The Street Cart Fries were also bomb tf dot com :)) I did forget to ask for the removal of the feta cheese :(, so I did my best to eat around it. Nevertheless these Mixed Fry Cart Fries definitely hit the spot and I'm saving the rest for mañana.

The Baklava Nut Roll and (surprisingly) the Vegan Wrap - Falafel & Quinoa were my least favorites.

The Roll tasted very meh to me and not a dessert I enjoyed. I took it apart to try each layer separate and I still didn't like nor finish it.

I actually got the Vegan Wrap this time and I didn't like it. Ughh. I don't know it just... Guess the falafel was throwing me off. Both quinoa and falafel didn't do it for me. It tasted dry. With the last veggie wrap, there was sauce dripping all over me with each bite, but this wrap was more "put together" and sauceless. I'll still be eating the wraps tomorrow and putting some Tapatío for flavor.

Yes, I only TRULY loved two items, but everything as a whole was an experience and I got to try more items off their menu which I ordered from their website...

Woohoo! I've been wanting to try Spitz for a while now and came here on a Friday night for dinner with my BFF. As we were ordering, we mentioned that it was my birthday and they were all so awesome about it and actually gave us free shots! Woohoo!

FOOD: street cart fries - yummy!! Like carne asada fries but no meat and different flavors and toppings. So good, especially with some ketchup! street cart doner (wrap) with chicken - this was pretty good too but the chicken was a bit dry. Sriracha and ketchup solved that problem for me berlin doner (wrap) with falafel - now THIS was good!! Loved the flavors and the falafel was so tasty!

Portions are really big and we ended up having a bunch of leftovers. To go boxes are at the bar counter for you to take if needed.

SERVICE: Awesome! Free shot, what more can I ask for?? We even took pics for their Movember wall with fun mustaches they provided for us.

VENUE/PARKING: Kinda dim inside, there's patio seating. Free for all seating, we didn't have a problem grabbing a table. Order at the window and they bring the food out to you. There's also a bar area and lots of TVs. I've never had a problem finding street parking in Little Tokyo, just gotta be willing to walk a few blocks! There are a few lots nearby too.

Will...
