TERRIBLE…. absolutely terrible experience here. I came in the evening, planning to enjoy a nice simple dinner meal. And I was met with such careless, unprofessional energy, from the waiter (Jose Z.) who served me. I think people forget… that customers ARE paying “quiet” and close attention (though they may not say anything) to HOW you treat them. Especially where they are spending their money at, customers are definitely paying attention to HOW you treat them. Now he’s Latino, and I am a Black male. I personally know there is a lot of stupid racist tension I always feel, coming from many of these Latinos, when I go into certain establishments. And it’s very sad that many of these Latino groups, carry this stupid racist energy with them (towards us blacks) wherever they go. That all being said… Jose was very careless in how he served me. I literally watched him pay more attention to a Spanish family that came in shortly after me, and he attended to their table with such warmth and kindness, but with me? He was very cold and stand offish. He even “raced” and “talked fast” as if he had more important things to do, than to be professional and courteous, and serve me. I would begin to say what I wanted from the menu, and he would “jump ahead” of me and say “ooh ya.. ya .. cool.. ok I already know what you want”. I was like?? What is this guys problem?? Instead of talking less, and simply listening more, to what I wanted, he would always “race ahead” of me. I hated that. When I asked for a drink while I waited for my food, I asked him what selection he had? And he kinda shrugged his shoulders, and looked away disinterested, talking from the side of his face, like “what? You don’t know what drinks we have?” I hated that. Instead of simply telling me the selection of drinks they had. Also, when he finally brought me my meal, he kinda just pushed the plates onto the table and quickly walked off. He did not pause and stop to say “here is your meal Sir, is there anything else I can offer? Would you like to add dessert?” Nothing. He just sped off to the back room. I waved him down, and he finally came back after several times of walking past my table (and it was not busy that night) there was only myself and maybe 4 other tables that were getting served. In a place that held maybe 30 plus empty tables, that night. I noticed he didn’t even supply my meal with napkins or anything. So I told him, do you have any napkins? He came back with this thin obnoxious slim stack of only 2 napkins… I’m like? I’m gonna need more napkins to wipe my mouth between bites.. c’mon now. A professional waiter is also SUPPOSED to come CHECK ON YOU every few minutes… to see if you need more drink, or food, or anything. He did not. I watched him pass my table by 10 plus times, without even stopping back, to check on me. I was finishing off the last dish I ordered with literally no drink. And I had to wave him down again for that, because he never would come back to check on my table. I hated that. All while I am watching him circle back again and again to that table with the Spanish family, and even this one white guy to my left, at his table. Another Spanish couple in front of me, and a group of 4 guys near the front entrance. He simply never came back to check on me, unless I made a point wave him down. And what’s sad (for him) is that, I literally was holding onto a $100 dollar tip that night, paper cash, in my pocket, ready to give to any waiter who would give me GOOD QUALITY HIGH service. When he brought the check to me, I simply only paid for the meal, and did not give him no “tip”. I kept the $100 in my pocket… because I was very disappointed by his poor service to me… and I left the restaurant. That $100 bucks tip, could have been a blessing to him… but BECAUSE of how bad he treated me… and I kept quiet about it as I watched him…. I ended up keeping the $100. People NEED to do better in HOW they GIVE SERVICE to OTHER PEOPLE. TREAT PEOPLE, THE WAY YOOOOU YOURSELF, WOULD WANT TO BE TREATED. Watch HOW you TREAT...

Read moreBeautiful Dining Room, Good Food, Bad Coffee -- It is a shame that a business to which coffee is so integral has such low standards for coffee when it is what used to be called a "coffee shop." I had a very nice cheddar cheese omelet and 2 pancakes from the senior menu, but the coffee is definitely substandard compared to what we think of as a "coffee shop" now. It is great that they put an individual pot of coffee on the table so that we don't have to depend on the waitress to refill the tiny cups they provide, but the coffee is surprisingly weak and tasteless. I suggest that IHOP rethink its coffee philosophy so that it can at least hold its own in the ballpark with Starbucks and Coffee Bean. The quality of their coffee makes me hesitate to order it again, and instead stop at another place for my coffee. Since I know that places like IHOP have big margins on drinks, including coffee, it seems a shame that they are potentially losing sales because their coffee is so obviously bad and not delicious, which impacts the enjoyment of the meal in general. It is such a pleasure to have that pot of coffee on the table, and I do like the French Vanilla creamers they provide, but the coffee itself is so bad that I can see myself sticking to ice water and not ordering it again, as it is not a taste treat in the least. Please rethink your coffee game and...
