End of Summer Picnic with Deli Sandwiches
Alex XanderAlex Xander
It's been a solid minute since I've enjoyed a good pastrami sandwich in LA. And Jeff's Table doesn't make a good one. They make a FANTASTICALLY EXCELLENT Pastrami sandwich!! First off - parking sucks Expect to drive around and get frustrated 17 times. I stopped by Saturday around 1:30pm and I was the only one ordering so the cashier was kind enough to offer suggestions and answer any questions. By the time my food was ready, there was a line down the hallway into the liquor store. The only "complaint" so to speak I have regarding the service or process of service is that if you're paying cash you have to take the receipt to the liquor store register, pay, get your receipt "stamped", then return to "Jeff's Table" and return the stamped receipt. It was fine today since I was the only person but I can't imagine during busier times how this goes. I orderd the Jeff's Special Reuben and Wasabi Tobiko Potato salad which came to about $25, then since I decided to grab a soda after, $2 for that so $27 for my meal without having leftovers. It's a bit pricey and I think some things can change here or there. The sandwich itself however is perfect. It's a good size and full of meat/cheese so you're getting your money's worth there. The bread is toasted to a perfect crunch. The pastrami is so juicy and tender with so much flavor. There's so much gooey comte cheese along with the crispy gruyere crisp. The kraut is sour, the Russian dressing is creamy, there's nothing more needed for this. The potato salad on the other hand was . . . interesting. At first bite I didn't like it and thought I wasted $7. It's a big portion but the flavors are interesting. A few more bites and I realized the combination of flavors are both good and bad. This has dill, aioli, celery, red onion, aged rice vinegar, wasabi and flying-fish roe. I think the Tobiko offers more of a slight texture change than flavor, partly due to the dill being so overpowering and not quite working with the "Japanese" side of this potato salad. The wasabi comes and goes, I'm not sure if it wasn't mixed well or, as I said earlier, the combination of flavors doesn't allow it to come through. And although I love all the ingredients, I think the dill is what really throws this off. I will 100% come back for the sandwiches and keep trying more new items each time I return!

I regret trying this place.

Location is not good. It's a ghost kitchen in a liquor shop with little signage. No staff. They provide 3 outdoor tables with no shade.

Ordering is through an app, ChowNow. No staff. You have to create an account with the app to dine in. After ordering, it gives you confirmation and an estimated ready time. That's it, it won't tell you when the food is ready. You just go inside the liquor store where there is a table with paper bag sandwiches.

Sandwich itself was not hot, who knows how long it's been sitting on the table. Sandwich is tiny, size of a flat hand. Ordered Jeff's Special. Rye bread was tasty, but overpowered any flavor in the sandwich. Pastrami was a single slice, tasty but you wouldn't know it without pulling out a piece. I got no taste of sauce, and the vegetables were few with no flavor. Cheese had good flavor, but very dry. Bread was tasty but very oily, the oil was basically the lubricating sauce for the sandwich.

Basically I would expect this out of a cheap cafe, not as a highly rated LA restaurant. I trust that their sandwiches might typically be good, but apparently their lows are really really bad....

Love this concept, menu, and all the creative components. All the sandwiches sound delicious, I could’ve gotten the whole menu. As far as execution though, I felt the sandwiches could have had a little more balance to them. I got Jeff’s special, and although tasty, it was more cheese than pastrami and quite oily. I don’t have a problem with getting messy but every other aspect of the sandwich was getting overshadowed by the cheese. Not enough kraut to punch and not enough pastrami to feel like a proper Reuben. Wanted to give them another shot so I got another, the turkey salad sandwich, but after a half it just tasted like a chill cheese frito. I believe in you guys and am sure there’s other delicious stuff on the menu!! I just think the sandwiches are a little out of balance and maybe the owner needs to go back in there and see if procedures/amounts are...
