My boyfriend and I are visiting from Palm Springs California and saw this place online. It was under a different name so we were surprised when we arrived. We ordered the French toast with 2 eggs and 2 bacon, and the senior Donn’s Latino heat as a burrito with fries and a pancake on the side. The service was okay, our waitress was nice at first. Our table was extremely sticky for some reason though. The French toast, bacon, and pancake were delicious. The pancake did take like just add water pancake mix but I’m not complaining. The bacon was cooked perfectly and the flavor of the French toast was divine. However, the burrito was not good. They used an underripe raw jalapeño and chicken sausage that was very under seasoned. The burrito was extremely bland and despite saying it would be spicy, was not even a little bit spicy, and I’m sensitive to spice. As well as this, it was a very small burrito. The fries were actually country potato’s, which normally I would not mind, but they were also very very under seasoned, they were cooked very well though. The tortilla was great on the burrito though! Very soft and chewy, with great flavor. However, my biggest complaint is how expensive everything was for how little you get. We paid $65 for 2 people. The menu was not clear at all and said that it was $16.95 for the burrito al a carte, but since I got the pancake and fries, she said it would be a $6.55 total upcharge. By the end of it, she had changed me $27.50 which was not correct according to the menu. When we asked her about it, she was very rude and kept telling us that the menu didn’t say that, despite literally showing her what it said. They did not offer to help and only gave us a 10% off card, which since we live out of town, we don’t plan on using and I don’t think I would return either way. The food was not good enough to be $65+
Unfortunate situation. Cute restaurant, great atmosphere other than the sticky table, and my Arnold Palmer was perfect. Disappointed that we were overcharged.
Edit: I found a menu on someone else’s review as I did not get to take any photos. I circled what it says. When I ordered, she did inform me the pancake would be $5 extra, and the fries were $1.55 extra. Despite this, the total should have only been $23ish, but we were charged $27.50...

I had my brother in town a few weeks ago and wanted to find a nice spot that serves a classic diner-style brunch for his last day visiting. This place popped up on a recommended list and I thought it looked good.
I'm compelled to write a review now because of the service experience we had. Walking in the door, there was a bit of a wait (understandable, the place was packed on a Sunday) but the host at the front desk was very personable and assured us we would be seated soon. It helped that we were a party of two, so mileage may vary.
Not too long later, we were seated. I noticed the host whizzing around the restaurant, and he would come by our table every so often, always checking in with me by name. Reading the menu gave us a glimpse into the restaurant's history, which I was totally ignorant too. It's a family-owned restaurant, whose original proprietors made a point to remember the name of every customer. Well, that rule has passed down to their son and current manager Paul - whom I soon realized had been our host and was the guy running around the restaurant.
I know it's simple, but that just blew me away - you expect managers to be inaccessible and probably more concerned with maintaining the books in a back room than doing front-of-house greetings. This guy was in like 5 places at once.
We paid and my brother went to the restroom as I packed up some leftovers. Paul came by again, checked to see that we had a good time (of course), and even pointed out that my brother had left his sunglasses on the table. Lol.
Then, on our way out of the door, Paul stopped us again and gave us some coupons as we had mentioned it was our first time there. Every time we interacted, this guy called me by name - I'm terrible with names so maybe that's why this was so impressive.
The food was good, and exactly what I wanted it to be - a classic diner experience, heavy on the portions. But the service set it apart, especially in a city like LA where it feels like service is an afterthought and most restaurants act like you should be honored they deigned to serve you.
I don't know when I'll be back next, but I will be back, and it's thanks to a very memorable...
Read moreDuring our visit to John O' Groats, we had the pleasure of enjoying some of the most delicious omelettes we've ever had. The standout was undoubtedly the "Baxter," also known as "The Hemingson." This omelette was a delightful combination of grilled onions, spinach, mushrooms, and avocado, creating a harmonious blend of flavors that was very satisfying and nutritious, too.
Another great choice was the "Micki O's." This omelette featured ground beef, grilled onions, and spinach, offering a satisfying and savory experience. The ground beef added a nice texture, while the grilled onions provided a sweet and smoky flavor that complemented the fresh spinach perfectly. The oversized biscuits were wonderful too. To top it all off, the fresh orange juice and great coffee added the perfect touch to our breakfast.
The many Omelettes and scrambles are served with a choice of home fries, melon, sliced tomatoes, cottage cheese, and biscuits or toast - great choices! The variety of sides allows for a personalized and satisfying meal every time. There were so many other breakfast choices we wanted to try in the future...as well as lunch items, too!
We had delicious leftovers of the omelettes, crispy potatoes, and biscuits for the next morning, which made for a fantastic second meal.
The friendly servers added to the overall pleasant experience, and we were glad to have a chance to talk with the wonderful owner.
We appreciated all of the Scottish materials, maps, and old photos decorating the space. The ambiance was spacious and comfortable, making it an ideal spot for a relaxed and enjoyable meal. We used to go to Bit 'O Scotland decades ago, and it was great to see how it has evolved into this charming restaurant.
Overall, John O' Groats delivered an exceptional breakfast experience with their creative and well-crafted omelettes. The quality of ingredients and the skillful preparation and great atmosphere make it a must-visit for anyone in the area looking for a...
