As someone who is currently very mindful of how and where I spend my hard-earned money, I approach dining out with care. Unfortunately, Mariscos El Chito did not meet even basic expectations.
Upon arrival, I was completely ignored while staff loudly argued over a messed-up order. Once they settled down, the woman who finally took my order was visibly flustered and offered no greetingājust a rushed, āI guess I can take your order.ā That should have been my cue to leave, but I was craving mariscos and decided to wait it out.
During the wait, yet another incorrect order created more chaos. I waited nearly an hour for my food, only to receive an incomplete order. Running late for my lunch break, I had no choice but to leave with what I was given.
The food? Unfortunately, it was underwhelming and undercooked. I ordered a Baja shrimp taco and a fish basketāboth tasted like the seafood was dipped in batter and barely cooked before being served. The jamaica drink, while flavorful, had chunks of hibiscus flowers that made every sip uncomfortable. A small side of avocado cost $2, and was maybe a quarter of a small avocadoāpretty steep even considering grocery prices.
To top it off, I noticed my food was ready and sitting on the counter, but the cashier was too distracted gossiping and updating her boss on a phone call to hand it over in a timely manner.
I spent $53, left hungry, disappointed, and late returning to work. The drinks were decent (aside from the flowers), but $6.50ā$7 for a 20 oz. cup seems a tad excessive.
Bottom line: Great concept, poor execution. The service was chaotic, the food felt unsafe to eat, and the value just isnāt there. I wonāt...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFireee! The reviews didn't lie. Food was bomb and made freshly to order in their outdoor kitchen. I've been seeing more of these family owned at home kitchen restaurants and I fully support that - esp if they are cooking up truly delicious homemade stuff.
Call to pick up or drive to their neighborhood and park on the streets to order in person. There's 2 tables with about 8 chairs or so around and it's a cozy seating situation, but I picked up togo since the other table out of the sun was taken
The family greeted me and I let them know it was my first time and they kindly offered a Dorados on the house which was sweet!
It was creamy, filled with shrimp, freshly made. Stayed crispy when I brought it home to eat.
I also enjoyed their Baja fish taco and a Pulpo (octopus) taco. Both excellent but I really liked their octopus the most given it was tender and flavorful. Best octopus I've had in a minute.
Went back and tried their Aguachiles verde. No skimping on the shrimp and really fresh and flavorful. š awesome stuff
Excited to try their loaded fries, the Ahogadas (the same as dorados but splashed with a tomato salsa ) and probably a burrito next time! It looks sooo good. Glad to have a Mariscos place not too far from me and that it's...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIām giving this restaurant a well-deserved 5 stars for the food! I ordered the ceviche de camarón tostada, and it was absolutely delicious. I also got to try my guyās aguachile, and they were just as flavorful. The seasoning was spot onāI didnāt feel the need to add anything extra, which says a lot.
As for the service, Iām giving it 4 stars. The staff was friendly and attentive, but they were a bit busy, so there were moments when service was slightly slower. Nothing major, just something to note.
The atmosphere also gets 4 stars. Itās an outdoor setup in a yard, which I personally found really comfortable and enjoyable. However, I know some people might prefer a more traditional indoor setting, so I wanted to mention it for those who care about that.
Overall, the food alone makes this place worth visitingāIāll definitely be...
