Awesome Japanese fried chicken @pikunicola , which is in Downtown LA @rowdtla . This casual but nice shop has delicious chicken tenders and wings, along with chicken sandwich and chicken bowls. If you want some awesome Japanese food, here is the spot. #foodreview #foodreels #foodreels #karaage #friedchicken #chickensandwich #lafood #dtla #japanesecuisine

A great fast-casual option in The Row, Pikunico worth the journey to find it. The parking is free for the first two hours, and it feels like food you’d find at a picnic. It has a pretty easily digestible menu, separated into sandwich vs fried chicken plates vs bowls vs sides. For a fried chicken place, they do have a few vegetarian entrees, which is nice if you’re going with a group. You order at the counter and get a number, and then you can choose your indoor or outdoor table based on what’s open. When we went for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon, it was pretty empty at The Row. It all comes out in one unlabeled bag, which is a little difficult when you have a big group ordering all at once. The classic fried chicken thighs tasted great in the moment, but it was a bit too heavy for me after because I don’t usually eat fried food. I was relieved that the chicken thighs were boneless because it made it easier to eat, and it was still very juicy, tender, and flavorful. The white lemon aioli and green parsley sesame sauce that came with the fried chicken were my favorite of the sauces. The chicken egg drop soup ($5.50) is good if you like bland soups, which is great if you’re hungover or sick, but I thought it was better after I added the remainder of my parsley sesame sauce that came with my chicken. It’s pretty small and it is made up of chicken broth, chicken cubes with the skin on, egg, and green onion. After tax & tip, it came out to ~$21/person.

There was barely anyone there since it was a Wednesday evening. The staff here are nice. Food took about 15-20 minutes to come out. They have a water dispenser on the right side of the cashier. They have cute seating booths and one long table for larger parties. Golden Chicken Sandwich ($15.50): This was so disappointing. All the pictures show a huge, thick, juicy piece of chicken katsu. What I got was the thin katsu you usually get in bentos. It was mostly batter and barely any chicken. The golden tumeric bun was more like a hard baguette. I felt like the alfalfa sprouts were the dominating taste so no flavors really came through. Mixed Fried Chicken ($12): This comes with 1 thigh, 1 wing, and 2 tenders. They were bland to me. The 3 sauces (lemon aioli, parsley sesame, daikon ponzu oroshi) they gave us were better than the chicken so we had to dunk them in the sauces quite heavily. My favorite sauce was the parsley sesame. The lemon flavor wasn't strong so the lemon aioli just tasted liked Kewpie mayo to me. Yaki Imo ($6.50): Good but a bit too soft. The Ume creme fraiche is tangy and pairs well with the sweet potatoes.

We were heading to San Gabriel after landing at LAX on a Thursday afternoon and braved the loads of extra traffic to be able to eat here. The golden chicken sandwich was somehow even better than it looked online. It is so amazing! The perfectly crunchy yet soft bread that was able to hold in all the layers of flavor without breaking apart definitely helped make it. The very smart layers of contrasting textures and densities of the daikon, sprouts, fried chicken, aoli, etc all make this sandwich amazing. We were happy that we made this our first foodie stop for our culinary weekend. What surprised us even more is how deliciously simple the yams were with the slightly tart cream and pumpkin seeds were - it is such a great contrast between the warm sweet yams and the cold sour creamy topping that made us doubly ecstatic to have made the time to stop in.

We did try the slaw and weren't impressed. It was thinly sliced and the not-house-made sauce was exactly the sauce it appeared to be, which was decently tasty, but nothing special. It did help to have this refreshingly light dish on the side, but we'd try something else next time.

Definitely will have to make our way back to get that sandwich again and the yams as well, then see what else we can find on the menu that is possible almost as...

i used to like this place, took my coworker for lunch on 10/27 12:00PM.

Sandwich came out raw and had to ask the server to re-do the sandwich. When they brought the sandwich again, it was raw again. We took it to server again letting her know that the sandwich is undercooked and chickens are still raw.

Server insisted saying that meat tend to look pinkish and it's fully cooked. NO IT WASN'T. When I bit into sandwich, the meat was slimy and cold.

I try to take the photo after complaining but server has already threw away the sandwich. I asked for a return and the server couldn't speak English nor knew how to print out a refund receipt. All she gave me was a receipt and she told me there is no option to print out refund receipt. what kind of POS system doesn't have refund receipt options?

This place used to be good. Too bad that restaurant is going down with undertrained staff working at the restaurant. I would not recommend this place and hopefully, this can be evidence if I get food poisoning from all the undercooked chickens. I hope they have cameras at the restaurant to prove and I really hope I don't get sick...

I really hope business owner sees this review. Never...
