My first job was making NY style pizza… so when it comes to pizza consumption, I tend to be quite critical. Proper Pizza and Pasta did not disappoint. We began sitting outside while we waited for our pie to be cooked to perfection, but then my daughter saw UFC on the tv. When we moved inside the establishment, we chatted with one of the Owners (Mark) and another team member in the kitchen. We talked jiu jitsu and all that jazz and it really helped to personalize the experience. When the pizza was ready, my daughter and I devoured it… leaving only two slices to take back to our hotel. We ordered a simple NY style cheese … which is a standard in our “NY judging” …
It was great getting to hear a bit about how the owner got to where he is now and why Proper Pizza and Pasta came to fruition. I hope this establishment is around for a long time. I was sure to let The Four Seasons Beverly Hills Los Angeles concierge know that it IS the Pizza Place to recommend.
Best of luck to the business and customers…. Don’t skip over this place. The pizza is more than worth...
Read moreHands down the best pizza I've found in California. The Buffalo chickn ranch is the GumBee's knees. When I first found proper pizza on Alvarado I ate there 13 or 14 days straight. Atleast 1 slice per day if not 3 and some Alfredo ravioli. Lol but for real I had been living in LA so long and all I could find for good pizza was Chicago style deep dish . Which is good but i realized I had forgotten what a thin pizza slice should taste like ,until I tasted proper pizzas Buffalo slice. So diggity I ate there everyday for 2 weeks And probably 25 days out of the month. Thanks guys for the dank 🔥 slices. I hope all your dreams come true, because you 2 worked hard and kept with it through all the rough BS like covid and then u got hit with those lagging LA city building and health inspectors who took almost a year to make sure the oven was actually a oven or something like that. Eitherway atleast your journey was interesting, u accomplished your goals, jumped through all the hoops!, and u came out stronger then ever. All love,...
Read moreReally disappointed with this place. The service was slow — took 30 minutes for a simple order of a cheese pizza, garlic knots, and truffle fries. Meanwhile, I saw other customers being asked if they needed utensils or extras like parmesan or red pepper — I got none of that. I came around 8pm, so it wasn’t closing time either.
The food itself wasn’t worth it. The cheese pizza was nearly $20 for a 20-inch NY-style pie that was way too saucy. Garlic knots were tasty but not worth $1 each — $6 for 6 is steep. The truffle fries tasted like frozen store-bought fries tossed in oil, no real flavor at all.
What annoyed me even more was the tip screen. The lowest tip option starts at 5%, which feels bold considering how bad the service was — and this was before I even selected “no tip.” I don’t usually leave reviews like this, but this whole experience just wasn’t it.
Funny enough, their box says “People disappoint, pizza is eternal.” Hate to break it to you — this pizza...
