My husband and I had brunch there on Feb 2nd to prepare for our evening concert. I ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes for our starter then the Steak and Eggs for me while my husband had the Chicken and Waffles. We had a great time enjoying the food and decided since it was a special day to order the Cinnamon Bun for dessert.
To our surprise, my husband bit on something hard and when he spit it out, out came a thicker than usual staple! We brought it up with our (very nice) server. She brought it to the kitchen and confirmed that the cinnamon buns came individually wrapped with staples at the ends and one of them accidentally fell into the bun that was served to us. She apologized and said they would comp our dessert. We didn't want to cause a scene but we felt a little unsettled with their dismissiveness. To be honest, if they had comped our meal, I would have been delighted (as I am a professional chef and understand these things happen) and let it go, however, my husband, who is a professional singer, was getting a little perturbed at how they seemed to undermine the situation, so he approach the reception area and repeated what happened. The receptionist apologized a bit more and asked for my husband's number and promised that their manager would call us as soon as he arrived (which settled us down a bit).
We waited for days but no call came, so I reported it to the LA County Public Health hotline and the guy I spoke to was also dismissive and said there wasn't much that could be done. I started to get a little upset and decided to tell him that I am a professional chef and that I know that there was more that could be done. His response to me was, "I thought you said you were a singer, now you're saying you're a chef?" I had to control my anger because I knew it wasn't gonna get me anywhere, so I responded by answering calmly, "My husband is the professional singer and I am also in the entertainment industry with him doing events together but I am also a professional chef." He politely answered back asking for my number and said that someone would call me in the next 2-3 days. No one called, hence, I made this review in hopes that somehow my voice might be heard. I regret not taking a video of that staple that my husband almost...
Read moreTL:DR… We came in, food was cold, drink was good, waitress was juggling too many tables, parking was fine (we suggest level two on the 3rd st. side but don’t bother since service varies.), would have gotten more drinks if I knew they wouldn’t have taken over 15 min to arrive!
We came in around 8 pm last night, made a reservation, were told that the machine was down but, we were seated immediately anyways because they were not busy (two of us). The atmosphere was good. Waitress was late to our table.. not her fault… I’m pretty sure she was the only… or 1/2 waitresses/waiters that night. The bar did a great job on my drink. And we ordered our appetizers and what not. Everything came in at once. Which was nice. Until it wasn’t. Our appetizer ($16) burning hot (awesome). But our entrees came in shortly after (not awesome). Why you might ask? Because my steak had been sitting and I believe the short rib had been sitting as well, maybe too long…? When it got to the table I immediately knew that the chicken had been forgotten, or maybe even cooking at the same time as our entrees (yet took a little extra time to cook because of course.. it’s chicken!) and we were stuck without a chance to say something about it or like “hey maybe throw my steak in the microwave for a minute or two” because our waitress was busy with other bigger tables.
Anywho, the food was good. Would have been better if it was hot. Still tipped, so don’t come after me, she was definitely running around doing her best.
One experience is enough for us. Thanks...
Read moreWell. The food looks pretty Artsy Fartsy , but If I wanted to look at art, I would’ve gone to an art gallery not a restaurant. They sure charge you an arm and a leg for the food you look at + the same food you eat if you don’t have any problems with that (didn’t take any pics. But the others reviews have pix for you to look at). Their famous “ chicken and waffle “ which was nicely decorated 1/2 chicken and a few pieces of waffle and fruit was $42 which tasted like KFC that was a little spiced up with herbs. To make a long story short, you are basically paying for the ambience not the food if that’s what you’re looking for. We were 6 adults and they automatically factored in %22 tip added to the bill which is understandable and were suggesting an extra tip with the amounts printed out %18, %20, and %22 on top of the 22% gratuity they already charged which I found a bit misleading because I was about to add a %20 percent tip when I noticed I was already charged %22 on the bill ( basically, they are suggesting a 40 to 45 percent tip on top of a menu that is already overpriced ! ). Anyways, I am not from L.A. and this might be the norm here. I really don’t know, but I was there with my brother. When he saw the surprised look on my face he said: “ Welcome to L.A.” with a smile...
