You can clearly see the love that was put into opening Prose. Executive Chef, David has put his heart and soul into opening this little gem in Woodland Hills, which is evident by the smile that lights up his face every time he stepped in front of the kitchen window.
Slowly, the West San Fernando Valley has added new, innovative, and upscale dinner spots, but the one thing it’s been lacking are bistro style restaurants. Now there’s Prose, serving California cuisine in a beautiful quaint location on the corner of Ventura Blvd. and Comercio Lane.
Our dinner began with an amuse bouche - cheddar chive biscuits served with honey butter. Those tasty morsels we’re not enough for us so we ordered the bigger version of the biscuits to start. Served three per order, these buttery biscuits melt in your mouth.
Next up the Gem Ceasar salad - a classy dish, but not the star of the show - and Za’atar-Roasted Carrots garnished with pomegranate seeds. The carrots, roasted and seasoned to perfection, where a delightful dish.
For mains we shared the Miso-Glazed Black Cod with coconut black rice, which was scrumptious. I savored every bite of the sweet and salty sauce on which the rice laid. The second dish, the Short Rib Lasagna, was a nice take on the classic. With tender short rib and a decadent mascarpone topping, this a lighter version that is strong.
Finally, we ended dinner with Sticky Toffee Pudding with a butterscotch sauce, and vanilla gelato. A very good wrap up to a...
Read moreA truly unforgettable experience that transcends the typical dinner out. Prose is a gem, a sophisticated and intimate escape that feels as if it were plucked from a stylish street in London or San Francisco. From the moment you step inside, you're enveloped in a unique atmosphere that is both elegant and genuinely warm.
The ambiance is what I can only describe as "James Bond-esque." There's a palpable sense of cool sophistication, a feeling that you've stepped into a scene where something special is about to happen. Yet, for all its chicness, Prose remains incredibly intimate and authentic. It's a rare combination to find a place that makes you feel so effortlessly sophisticated, yet completely at ease, with no hint of pretension.
Adding to the wonderfully personal and welcoming vibe, the owners themselves make a point to greet guests at their tables. This genuine touch elevates the experience from a simple meal to something truly special, making you feel like a valued guest in their home.
And the food? Absolutely spectacular. I had the steak, and it was perfection. It was so incredibly tender and flavorful that it could be effortlessly cut with a butter knife. Every bite was a testament to the quality of the ingredients and the skill in the kitchen.
Prose is more than just a restaurant; it's an experience. It's a place that makes you feel unique, sophisticated, and genuinely cared for. I cannot recommend it highly...
Read moreWelcome to a new jem in West Valley! Just had a fabulous dinner with friends last night at Prose. We were greeted by the hostess and the owner, chef David, before we were seated at a booth table. It was a pleasure seeing the chef going around tables, meeting locals, and getting feedback. We decided to share several appetizers and ordered each main dish. We brought our special bottle of wine, $35 cork fee, howerever, their own slection was great, too. The management is working on getting a liquor license, which will be a great addition. All the apps were wonderful; we enjoyed tokyo style carpaccio with some biscuits, beet salad with labneh, and zucchini blossoms. We also enjoed chefs spin on lasagna, which I loved with lots of short rib and so much flavor. My husband enjoyed crab pasta, which apparently is their popular dish already. We ordered few glasses of their french wine, which did not disappoint. For a dessert, since we were celebrating a birthday, they brought out delishious chocolate cake with caramel and ice cream. Considering that they were open only a week or so, they did very well. The service was great, not rushed, and well organized with attentive staff. The place is beautifully decorated and cozy, awesome for small family and friends gatherings, intimate dinner, and such. We are definitely coming back to try more of Chef David creations. Make reservations as this place will get...
