Shakey's Pizza was founded in Sacramento, California, on April 30, 1954, by Sherwood "Shakey" Johnson and Ed Plummer. Johnson's nickname resulted from nerve damage following a bout of malaria suffered during World War II. The parlor opened on a weekend, but since the pizza ovens were not yet completed only beer was served. Shakey took the profits from beer sales and bought ingredients for pizza the following Monday. There are 5 locations in the Valley: Sylmar, Glendale, Valley Village, Burbank and Northridge. Shakey’s was the first pizza franchise chain. 🍕

My wife wanted to come here tonight for dinner. I never been to shankey and we had another place across the street in mind but since my wife saw the sign, she was craving this instead. I found parking alright in the plaza this place is in. When we walked inside, they weren't that busy at all. My wife already knew what she wanted and I looked at their menu. I went with the 12 piece wings, my wife got the medium size pepperoni pizza and added mushrooms along with the 2 piece fried chicken. They give us a number and we found a booth to sit in. I wasn't sure if they deliver the food to you or you have to go pick it up so I went to ask. They told me they will announce the order number when the food is ready. They don't have a speaker to announce it on so you'll have to pay attention. Later on, someone brought some of our food to us. The pizza and my wife fried chicken order were done first. My wife loved her pizza and I tried it when I thought it was okay but not my favorite. I tried the mojo potatoes and thought I was okay. It took a while for my chicken wings to come out for some reason. The chicken wings I thought wasn't the worst but I had 1 piece that was red and cold so I think they didn't cook it properly. I got the ranch from their self serve area for salad and other side dishes. If I had the choice, I wouldnt want to come back because I think there better options than here.

I decided to get take out from this location as I do not visit the North Hollywood location anymore due to the surrounding neighborhood. This location however is located in a much safer neighborhood plus the location has a more retro look to its exterior. I'll be getting Shakey's again in the future from this location for as long as I live in the San Fernando Valley. The food has not changed much since I was a child who frequented Shakey's in the 1990s. The only thing I miss the most about a Shakey's is the arcade they used to have, at least the Huntington Park location had one. I also miss the old tables, chairs and piano music that played in the background. If you never had Shakey's before, I recommend trying it out once in a lifetime and then make your own assessment. I have met a few people who say they hate the pizza but I love the pizza. I put it on par with Dominos or Pizza Hut when made properly. Shakey's has always been a bit pricey but in this inflation it feels more expensive than it should be. I think it's still worth the price in 2024. 🍕

UPDATE: We went in yet again on Saturday Night 2/15 and the place was thriving with families, excellent service, a salad bar that brings me back to the abundance of salad bar options filled and fresh, and a crew of workers that were on their game catering to their hungry guests. Gosh I love this place! kudos to YOU management team because "a Captain is only as good as his Soldiers" and you rate an A+ in MY Book. LOVE our visits there! Older Review: This is a FANTASTIC Shakey's Pizza Parlor! The only thing missing is the pizza makers throwing little dough balls at a window while you are watching like they did in the old days. LOL But this brings back the Old Days for me in every way when we go there and I love walking in because it does bring me right back to my youth. The ambiance is good too like it was in the old days. Shakey's has been around a long long time and I am so glad about that! Now the FOOD: Deeee-licious! The coating on the fried chicken is crispy and a bit spicy (just a little bit) but we always get enough to take home and the chicken is delicious cold too! The mo-jo's are perfect and the pizza is real fine and the salad bar is varied and always a joy to go to with my plate. *It cannnn be noisy with kids running around and families but we try to find a spot (as two adults) furthest away from all that. But people, this is a wonderful place to eat and I hope that they Never EVER EVER go out because you are certainly an Icon of history and Northridge ! Your staff is real nice too. This is a memory time capsule for me and every time we decide to go there for dinner I get excited just like I used to when I was a kid. Yes, Shakey's Pizza Parlor is...

Horrible customer service Brenden the supposed main manager has there worst phone edicit and customer service. I wanted to know what was on the specialty pizzas that Shakey's offers so he places me on hold multiple times over ten minutes tried to pass me off on another employee who had no idea what my question was and when I asked what happened to the other guy he picked up and said what do you want. I said you still haven't told me what was on the the specialty pizzas. He proceeded to read the names and repeated what do you want. I want to no what is on them so he read me all the toppings they carry for every pizza avoiding my question. I asked to talk to the manger and he said in a sarcastic manner "speaking". He acted as if I was troubling him by asking questions about there specialty pizzas. Then had the audacity to say I need to stop yelling at him when I had even raised my voice once yet. Yes I was frustrated with their service but yelling I wasn't. Shakey's COME ON It was as if I was on the phone with the cable company. Shakey's needs to address there leadership decisions. This person they place in charge is un fit for management. I have been coming to Shakey's since I was a child and have recommended them to people to take their kids for a fun family night out. I guess this is not the place it once was and I will not be coming back if he is there. Brenden Sucks if he doesn't like dealing with customers he needs to get out of...
