I had been here a few times pre-pandemic and never understood why it hadn't become one of LA's hotspots. The decor is impeccable (particularly for art-deco fans), the drinks are tasty, and the food is solid.
In search of a COVID friendly spot this weekend, a Google maps search for "outdoor patio" reminded me of The Edmon. I paid a visit to the parking-lot-turned-patio in the back of The Edmon last night. They've done a nice job making the large outdoor section feel inviting: astro-turf, comfortable couches, numerous tables, and string lights. We arrived around 6 and soon after noticed a well dressed youthful gentleman making his rounds. He introduced himself as Mathew.
He introduced himself and performed some magic. I knew he was legit by the gold pin on his lapel (if you don't know, members of the Academy of Magical Arts get this distinction). For the next few hours, he made his rounds around the establishment. Thankfully, he spent a generous amount of time with us and a couple sitting nearby.
If you need proof as to the draw and staying power Mathew provides, the couple paid and received their bill just before Mat did his first close-up performance for them around 6:15pm. None of us left until well after 9pm (not coincidentally when Mathew's shift ended).
I'm hesitant to spread the word because I'm pretty sure there's going to be a line down the block on Melrose for this treat, but as long as they'll let me jump the line, I'm happy to spread the love. Those who haven't attended the Magic Castle will catch a glimpse into what they're missing by coming here.
Whatever management is paying Mathew, they better give him a raise in a few weeks when this becomes the must attend event in Hollywood every Saturday (he's there weekly from 6-9)! Happy hour ends at 7, so you even get a solid hour of...
Read moreSoooo friendly!!!! And such a nice Gatsby vibe. Had a wonderful time. Im a POC/black solo traveler (was in town to visit a friend), staying at the hotel next to this bar. Everyone at the bar were incredibly friendly and helpful to me (a little southern girl from NC who visited LA for a weekend). The atmosphere was wonderful and the bartenders were all so personable. I went to all the places people at The Edmon bar suggested to me and each place was PHENOMENAL. I met a producer at The Edmon who even gave great advice on places to visit while in town. It was like everyone at the bar were also solo, just hanging out and making friendly conversation. Most seemed like regulars and joked around with a bartender, which was cool lol definitely felt like I was in an episode of “Cheers” 🤣 in the BEST way. I definitely lucked out and met the most awesome people while there. Would do it all over again, if I could! Can’t get over how friendly everyone was 🥹. Solo travelers, don’t be afraid to start convos or make friends with strangers. Let your guard down. When you approach others with friendly energy…you’ll receive the same in return. Wish I could move here! Can’t get over how friendly...
Read moreI was expecting great service and amazing food by looking at the reviews and the interior of this place. We went for dinner, they have TV on the wall, and the Lakers were playing the Rockets.. in LA? And the TV was off. Highly confusing. Service started out great. Drinks were "measured" so eh they were ok, I like when bartenders are actually "bartenders" and don't measure everything. I ordered the beer/bacon/cheese dip. It tasted like something they had frozen for years back there and stuck in the microwave. It definitely wasn't fresh and it was brown, tasted nothing like cheese. It was so salty I couldn't eat it. My husband got the burger. Ordered it med rare, it was med well. He still liked it, but not hard to get a burger temp correct when you pay $17 for it. Fries were ice cold, but they brought fresh ones, 15 min after I asked. Service became terrible near the end, we were ignored. Not a good experience at all for $70... food was just sub par.....
