I'm a member of a travelling band from Austin, TX. WE DID NOT GET PAID. If you or your band are coming through Los Angeles DO NOT BOOK HERE. We had a good crowd and a positive reaction as did our co-touring band, yet we both were still denied compensation beyond a single drink ticket. The staff were constantly relaying our questions and concerns to a largely absent and entirely incompetent manager. When we asked the bar management about payout he referred us to the door person. If you have any experience with bars and venues I'm sure your aware that management handles payments, not employees. When confronted with his own misdirection the bar manager claimed we signed a contract establishing specific criteria for payment. NO ONE SIGNED OR SAW ANY SUCH CONTRACT. Regardless of the fabricated contract we fulfilled our obligations as performers and received nothing but unprofessional disregard and dismissive indifference. As a travelling act we need payment to sustain our work, THE MINT LA WILL NOT PROVIDE THIS. The bottom line is we both played a fantastic show to a packed and supportive crowd (with the help of a great sound man) and were treated horribly. I would like to say purely angry and detrimental things about The Mint but convinced myself it was more important to spread this information. Hopefully other performers will see this and all other reviews we submit and completely forget about wasting their time with this terrible and dishonest venue. This is a BAD BUSINESS and all of The Mint staff involved in our fiasco should be ashamed. This place is one step away from being a full out scam, along the lines of 'pay to play' and other predatory and immoral practices. I COULD NOT BE MORE UNHAPPY...
Read moreI typically never leave negative reviews however the service I experienced here was so rude and unprofessional I wouldn’t go back simply because of the one server. Pros: the food itself was good—pricy for what you get though The music is super fun and there’s a really great crowd! Parking is easy Cons: It took over 30min for the waitress to take our order while she checked on a table behind at least 3times. When we tried to flag her down she didn’t stop moving and just said “hang on” we gave her the benefit of the doubt though as it looked like she was the only one serving the dinning area. She finally gets to us and she takes my friends order then my boyfriends, he says “I’m ordering for two, I’d like a the steak skewers and an iced sweet tea” she SAYS “this is a bar not a McDonalds.” So he responds with “I’ll just take a water.” Then she rushes off without taking the second order so he gets her attention before she fully leaves to order the second meal (he ordered for me because I was taking a call outside) he orders his meal then she says “you did that completely out of order.”
Once we finally get our food another 20min later she slams our food on the table. It was really frustrating because each person had a $20min order and we were forced to deal with her attitude. It was really disrespectful—I understand that people can have really hard days but it was such a deterrent I...
Read moreMy nephew was playing keyboards there, recently. Loved the band, but the server/waitress was just rude. I asked if they had root beer, nope. So, I said, “Can you pls tell me what you DO have, then, as far as nonalcoholic drinks?” She said, “Just the regular… (pause)“ (OK, I’ll play?!?$@). “No, I don’t know what the etc. etc. is!” It really was ridiculous, particularly since we could barely hear each other, screaming over the too loud music! She may work there every night, but I don’t! And I haven’t been there in a long time, nor have I had alcohol in decades, so how the heck do I know what’s on tap? The norm now could be Gingerale & Dr Pepper. Give me a break! With all the options available for entertainment, you’d think they’d wanna kick it up a notch; the ‘class,’ NOT the sound! The music was pretty darn good. I love good brass players, but it was wayyyy too loud; mainly the bass & drums, if you can believe it, with six brass players! Singer couldn’t hear himself in his headphones, and some of the players agreed. They could NOT hear themselves, 12 players! The sound guy was just asleep st the wheel, not good. He should’ve read the room better…...
