Like many others, I think Guy Guy Fieri hyped up this place way too much on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives because I had high expectations of the food and left utterly disappointed.
My bf's parents actually pointed this place out to me while watching the Food Network show and so we set aside a Sunday to come try the Filipino fushion BBQ joint. When we arrived we didn't see any signs for the restaurant but there was already a huge crowd gathering outside, so we figured we would find parking on the nearby street and walk over since there was no parking lot nearby.
When we walked over to the restaurant we were told that the wait was an hour at 1:30pm and since we braved a huge amount of traffic to get there we decided to wait it out. I was able to place an order of corn bread during our wait outside. After about 40 minutes we were seated. The menu is very simple and since we wanted to try a little of everything, the four of us ordered the ribs and riblets, another order of corn bread, rice, coconut beef, tri-tip, pulled pork, and chicken to share family style.
Ribs and Riblets - flavorless and fatty, the only thing that saved it was the bbq sauce which we had to drench it in.
Coconut Beef - I'm not a fan of coconut and the meat was overcooked so I didn't like this dish very much.
Tri-tip - Very tender and the horseradish sauce that it came with paired very well with it.
Pulled Pork - Dry but tasted decent with the vinegar based bbq sauce.
Chicken - The worse chicken I have ever had! It was SO dry and flavorless! I felt like I was eating straw.
Corn Bread - This was the best part of the meal. I LOVED the corn bread and I usually don't like corn bread since most tend to be dry, but this was moist and had just the perfect amount of sweetness to it. I will only come back again for the corn bread!
Most of our food came out lukewarm like it's been sitting out for awhile. I was disappointed because i expected the food to be served fresh from the oven/smoker. I'll come back just for the corn bread if I'm nearby, but I definitely won't make the drive out again. Sorry Guy Fieri but this place doesn't deserve...
Read moreIn short, This place is a MUST TRY. Fantastic food, ambiance and the most hospitable service. With a few more details, I heard about this place from a friend and it looked very interesting to me so l decided to try it. Not your average boq that's for sure and for LA BBQ this is a huge positive. It reflects the owners' backgrounds and neighborhood with a take on delicious bbq. Johneric, and his wife are part-owners that I met and they had the most fascinating stories of how some of the dishes came to be. The stories showed us how much thought, heritage and love is in the food. The inside was clean and the decor symbolized the Filipino twist in the bbq you're about to have. The service was fantastic, prompt and quick. Now for the food; Every single thing I ate here was delicious. On Wednesdays, you get to try many things in one plate and that's what they call the Wednesday worker plate, and that's what I got. Pulled pork was juicy without the sauce. Links were great. Candied chicken was fantastic. The cornbread was amazing and has a hint of coconut. The star of the show for me was the coconut beef adobo. It was so delicious I had to order more. So l got another order of the coconut beef adobo with rice and packed the leftovers to go. It was fantastic. This is a unique plate to Park's Finest Boq, and if you're visiting LA or a local, you should come eat this here, and I'll tell you why. It's not a dish you can find anywhere else. The slight heat with coconut mix and beef chunks mixed with the warm white rice created a heart warming and belly craving feeling that's make you a happy you tried it. For dessert, the Ube flan was amazing. Great texture and flavor. I can't say no to anything Ube. The table sauces are fantastic and I could put them on everything. I wish they would bottle them. They have a good selection of beers on tap and in the can. Great location close to echo park and downtown and mid city. There is street parking but if you can ride-share here that might be best. I HIGHLY recommend this place and will def be...
Read moreCame by to have lunch on a Wednesday recommended by a friend. I first looked at the menu and I was thinking, how is the taste of an american BBQ with filipino BBQ fused to it? The answer is very delicious.
We came in the best time of the day where they have a Wednesday special. A food with a little bit of everything on the menu. So I ordered more that is not on the special. The bbq ribs and riblets and the Gouda mac and cheese
BBQ ribs with riblets are tender and succulent. Gouda mac n cheese is cheesy delicious.
The special came with coconut beef, chicken, links, corn bread, pulled pork and vegetables.
The coconut beef is so tender and there's the right amount of saltiness from the fish sauce and creaminess of the coconut milk served over the bed pf white rice. The pulled pork is tender and juicy. The links are spicy and sweet. The chicken is a little overcooked but still tasty. The cornbread is moist and sweet.
Our server also handed us 2 sauces. One is a BBQ sauce made with coconut and pineapple. The other is a spiced vinegar.
We ordered desserts. Ube flan and Buko Pandan flan. They are both delicious. The buko pandan is not that sweet compared to the Ube flan. Ube flan have a rich creamy taste of ube, (not taro). Some place would sell their dessert and call it ube but use taro instead, not this place.
I tried one of their beer, ube macapuno from a distillery from Glendale CA. Proudly owned by a Filipino family. The beer has a hint of ube and chocolate and it is a dark beer. It is good but I wish I tried their calamansi (calamondin) one too. But that's for another day.
The place is not big inside that probably would accomodate 30 people.
If you are craving a BBQ and you are near Downtown Los Angeles, you better try this place. You won't be disappointed. Our server is very attentive. I forgot to get her name but according to my receipt, her...
