Ode to the torta.
Tortas Mexico Restaurant is what it is. Mexican food with homemade zest. Having been here twice now, and still on my quest to find the best shredded beef tacos I have yet to try their tacos only because they don't have shredded beef. They do serve ground beef (don't get me started) and carnitas (pork).
The tortas here are good. I mean that. My favorite and my staple is the chorizo torta. Here it is available both day and night which is good as some places only serve chorizo during the morning hours considering it is generally consumed during those times. For a growing young man, the tortas here are proportionate to the price.
Carne asada burritos here are good, although I would have to recommend that if you like your meat and you want a good serving of meat to forgo the "ultimate" option. That being rice, beans, lettuce, guacamole, and sour cream inside the burrito. If added, you're subtracting your meat and increasing the filler inside. And what's the best part about carne asada burritos? The meat of course! So for all you meat heads, do yourself a favor and get those items on the side.
Tacos here are your grill style tacos, meaning they are not fried. Served over two corn tortillas you have your choices of meat. The Al Pastor is mediocre, as I had expected more flavor and a larger serving for the price.
The facility is clean and presentable. Parking is atrocious so come during off peak hours. Tortas Mexico Restaurant features delicious horchata and a selection of typical salsas, red, green, and pico de gallo.

Read moreKind of a bit above the hole-in -the-wall kind of place. Friendly staff, good food, decent prices but parking is sometimes difficult. Never an issue with them until recently, and this when ordering through delivery. For any connoisseur of such fare, menudo comes with by default often onions, cilantro, lime/lemon.. Despite knowing this, I included these condiments in my special instructions with my recent delivery order. Despite which ALL of these condiments were absent, quite lessening my food experience,
I do understand that mistakes happen, but I am perhaps increasingly frustrated at the frequency of which they have been occurring. Particularly when I have been trying to remain supportive of delivery services, their drivers, the restaurants they pick up from, etc. to help keep businesses open and people employed.
My thanks is that this is about the 6th of last ten delivery orders I’ve had an issue with. Items missing, special instructions ignored, etc.And I am not a greatly particular or demanding customer. Going forward, please do train your staff to be more attentive and diligent, to the benefit of all. Mentioned from the perspective of someone with not a little background in food/beverage service and...
Read moreTortas is a restaurant I want to love, but ultimately, it falls short. Firstly, the guacamole. I'm not sure what it is, but I'd refuse to call it guacamole if I made it. It's bland and too creamy. It seems like it doesn't even have tomato or onion. It's not horrible, but expect something... different.
Then we have the tamales. These tamales have WAYYY too much masa. Some people may like that, but I'm of the opinion that the best tamales use a thin layer of masa. And these tamales aren't just a lot of masa; they are fat masa tubes with a very tiny bit of meat in the very center. They are basically cornbread.
Fortunately, there is a shining light amid this disappointment. The tortas are actually quite good. They are a nice size and stuffed with layers of Mexican tastiness. I definitely see myself going here again just for the tortas. Also, their menu is vast, so I imagine that they have other good items I've yet to try. Still, my experience here will definitely keep me cautious about leaving the boundaries of the...
