This place is fine if you want a dimly lit dinner away from the hustle and bustle of Los Feliz, but this restaurant should not be sought out for anything but that. The restaurant serves as almost two, unique spaces; an Italian restaurant, and a take out pizza place. Because of this, any sense of romance or quiet dining is erased with the incessant bell signaling food ready for delivery. The entrance to the restaurant is itself cramped by employees standing around waiting to do something. There is no place for them to stand, so they fill any space, making entering difficult. The food is okay, with some dishes clearly better than others, but overall, nothing is special, and tastes like something they dressed up from the Albertsons across the street. The dishes also came out in bowls with large chips taken out of them, which caused my fork to come to abrupt stops trying to twirl pasta, and only made me wonder why they didn't replace them. Overall this place is fine for a casual pasta dish, but if you're looking for something a bit more exciting, head a block north...
Read morePerhaps we dined on an “off” night (26th of December) but I am genuinely confused as to why anyone would opt for this over Little Doms just up the street.
The service was sub par at best, with wait staff constantly walking up and down the tables but never clearing dirty dishes until asked, not filling up waters until asked, and not coming to check on tables unless asked. It was like they were just trying to look busy but not be busy. I can understand from a personal angle, but as a customer paying more than $100, a bit frustrating.
Then the food. We ordered a penne bolognese which tasted bland and not like bolognese at all. It was like… canned tomato sauce with celery and meat thrown in and heated for maybe 10 min. The pasta tasted like the discount penne I have sitting in my pantry and the peas absolutely tasted like frozen ones acquired in the Albertsons freezer.
Cool atmosphere, just wish the service and food (you know, the things that make a place a Resturant and not just a place where people feast on disappointment...
Read moreSaturday night service. I had not been in this place for some years and I had forgotten how good their traditional Italian cooking is. Our group of three included an Italian person. All the food was cooked like you expect in an Italian Trattoria with Nonna's recipes. Worth mentioning was the POLENTA E FUNGHI cooked to perfection: the polenta was not hard, cooked through and the sauce had a red wine subtle flavor with a strong mushroom (funghi) tone. The result is just Divine. The other dish that was exceptional and worth mentioning was the Chicken Fine Herbs. That is a dish very hard to get right on a Saturday night with a full house: the chicken has to be cooked to perfection, and the fine herbs have to be very fresh, well-chosen when procuring them and used exactly right so they don't overcome the sweet flavor of the chicken. Your bite has to let the chicken hit your palate and then the undertone of the herbs finishes the flavour. They cooked that bird with fine herbs with love and it hit all the high marks. I...
