I've been a long time customer for over 10 years, basically when this place used to allow customers to draw on the walls, so I hate to give a review like this. I've been going to this place with my dad from when I was in middle school and always loved the food, which is why I will at least keep 2 stars for them.
So fast forward to a couple months ago. My sister and I had a taste for their sushi and once we got there, we went inside to order. Right when we entered, one of the employees rudely and abruptly told us that we had to go outside and order from their website due to the pandemic and whatnot which I didn't know they were making customers do until this point. So we went back in our car to order our food online on our phones.
To start off, their website is already really poorly structured, limiting and kind of confusing to use on mobile. Whenever I came to this place before the pandemic, I always got an ugly combo and substituted the rolls that come with it for other rolls, which would normally cost me extra. Since I couldn't quite figure out how to do that on their website, I went back inside to ask for help.
The employee that initially told my sister and I to order outside looked irritated when I walked back in and the owner of the store came up to me, also seeming a bit irritated. Mind you, he wasn't even wearing a mask and he wasn't trying to stand six feet away from me even when I constantly tried to step backwards to get further away. I asked him how I could add two specific rolls as a substitute to the combo online because I knew that the price would come out differently and cost more, which is fine because that's how it normally is for me anyways. He didn't really answer my question but kept saying something about how I couldn't because of "protocol". I assume he was talking about the protocol for restaurants during the pandemic, which is ironic because the protocol is to not eat inside, which I was not going to do, and to wear a mask and stand six feet away from others, which he did not do. And, what does protocol have anything to do with getting a substitute? After a little back and forth of trying to understand one another, he seemed frustrated then told me in these very words that he has thousands of customers, that I'm just one, that I'm not worth it and to take my business elsewhere. By this point I was sooooo confused. All I was asking for was how to substitute two rolls for two other specific rolls in the ugly combo online, as I was not going to pay for something I did not want, and yet was willing to pay extra to get what I wanted. Even though I told him that's what I normally get, he said they never gave substitutes for the combo, WHICH MADE NO SENSE BECAUSE I GOT IT PRIOR TO THIS VISIT!!
Despite having "thousands" of customers, as he said, to tell a loyal customer, hell, to tell ANY customer that they're not worth it and to take their business elsewhere, what kind of customer service is that?! And over something so simple as wanting a substitute! He was quite dismissive and it really sucks, but I will never be coming back to this place ever again. Not after...
Read moreLet me start off by saying that in no way am I a sushi snob. I go to high end and both hole in the wall places. I've ordered online from this place before and never sat inside to have sushi. We went over the weekend to order some basic rolls as we were hungry after a long drive. We were barely greeted by what seemed to be the owner and he just sat us down and was very unwelcoming. We then proceeded to order on their screen again very basic rolls as a matter of fact 2 of the rolls were veggie. They brought us some water and some oranges with ginger, etc and that was it. The napkins, chopsticks, etc we had to bring ourselves. When the brought the order to us, we poured some of their light soy sauce 2 of the rolls (one of them the veggie rolls). The soy sauce was poured very lightly on maybe like 2 rolls each and not the entire rolls as I pour the sauce as I eat. After eating the 2nd-3rd roll, 2 of us noticed that our sushi had a very strange chemical taste to it, almost like handsoap mixed with dishsoap. It was a very distinct taste. We at first thought it was the soy sauce, so he brought us the regular soy sauce. However, after eating another roll, it was apparent it was the sushi itself. We proceeded to tell the owner about the sushi taste, but he just played dumb and was dismissive. Didn't even offer to remake the sushi, etc. We just left it and didn't eat it, while I proceeded to give my kid his veggie avocado roll. I didn't bother to taste my kid's sushi to see if it tasted the same, but me and the other party who accompanied us tasted what I tasted. Again, we told the owner and he was sarcastic, very cold and rude to us, and made fun of us. He told us in 20 years he's been in this business he hasn't had this problem. Basically it made it seem that we were making it up! Long story short, he didn't offer to remake the sushi, nor did he take it off our check. I go to a LOT of sushi restaurants, and this isn't one I will ever go back! And by the way, after the other guests came he was nice to them. It's almost like from the beginning he wanted to refuse business to us but had to take us in because his small place was empty. This isn't about the money, it's the fact that he dismissed our concerns even though they were legit. I know there are people out there who go to restaurants and lie that their food is bad. We are not one of those people. I also feel sick (in my stomach) this morning as I type this and can't...
Read moreI went to eat here about 5+ years ago and it was cheap and OK… recently went back this weekend after seeing Kazi Nori had a line out the door and surely made the wrong choice! Not cheap anymore and we couldn’t even eat it, it was so bad. I spit out a few pieces and we didn’t finish the small amount we ordered. We are seated and then given a cut up orange (which most restaurants give you at the end for a treat). The orange came with the wasabi and ginger on the same plate! (very odd). We ordered off the digital menu which was smart as we watch the Mexican woman pouring pre-made rice from the fridge into the rice cooker. Found it bizarre they didn’t just have various steamers with fresh hot rice! Our eel came with some parts warm (it’s supposed to be cooked) and some parts still cold on cold rice. The rest of the fish was tough to chew and some pieces I had to spit out, others I forced down(we were hungry). But the rice was cold, the fish was room temperature and didn’t taste fresh at all! How hard is it to have a fresh refrigerated piece of fish on a warm piece of rice? And maybe some wasabi on the rice under the fish, which is typical. We were both disgusted so we decide to get a fresh piece of orange in our mouths to cleanse the palette and get rid of the disgusting taste and feeling. But the orange must have been cut up hours ago and sitting in the fridge because it was all dry, old with no juice or flavor! Too many shortcuts taken here for such a simple thing. Raw fish on rice! Nothing was fresh… not even the rice!! Needless to say we didn’t finish the food, we had disgust all over our face and nobody asked “how is everything”.
Learn how to run a restaurant and cook rice, and have fresh fish! Maybe turn on some music! I’ve never been so disgusted. Then we went down the street to grab a slice of pizza after spending $50 on the worst sushi I've ever had.(we didn’t leave a tip!) When you order tacos do you want a Chinese guy cooking them? I want the Chinese guy making my dumplings, and a Japanese man or woman chef making my sushi. No offense but the Mexican girls or mother/daughter working there have probably never even gone out to eat sushi in their life. I will never eat here again. Maybe it should be called Really Ugly and...
