Probably the worst restaurant experience I have yet to experience. And as a long-time customer, that really sucks to see this place go downhill.
I went in today 2/9 Saturday around 3:15pm. They were busy as usual and under-staffed. A guy took my order but nearly an hour went by - no drink, no food. Two staff members sat down to eat their meals while he continued to hustle. I'm patient, I get it, I've worked in restaurants before, I get the need to take breaks, etc. But it is frustrating to wait so long, to not get your food, and then see others get their food who were there after you.
Finally, I had to go, my meter was going to run out (it's only an hour street parking). I asked the server if I could just get it to-go. He said sure and by the way, no more pupusas, the woman who makes them is on lunch (clearly). The afternoon had already sucked, so what could I do, no reason to complain more, not even going to point out that some guy who had come in before me had his pupusas. It's fine. I paid and continued to wait - for another 15 minutes. Finally, I left to go pay my meter and then came back, it was then ready.
I was so, so dumb and did not check my order until I got home - all the way back to the valley, an hour drive with weekend traffic. I get home, look at my order...a beef saltado and I'm a vegan, had ordered the tofu. Are you kidding me??
But the final straw - I called them. First call, on hold for 10 minutes. Second call got through. I described my experience, they remembered me, remembered their order, admitted their mistake. I asked them to refund my card. The woman went to ask her manager, then came back and said "my manager said, do what you gotta do." What does that even mean? And then she promptly hung up. I called back, asked her why she hung up, she repeated the same thing, then hung up again.
I'm so frustrated, as I've been a loyal customer, going there for about 3 years now. But this by far, was the weirdest, worst dining experience I've had. I...
Read moreOmg I don't even know where to start. This place is just amazing. Please please visit it and support this local place. We need it to stay for many years to come. Everything is vegan and actually very healthy. Unlike other places that claim to be healthy this local place is actually one of the healthiest. They use organic, clean, fresh, and delicious ingredients, including healthy cooking oil, not toxic and inflammatory seed oils. I have tried many dishes and they have been nutritious, comforting, and delicious. My mom is an amazing hispanic cook, and I grew up with many of these dishes. She has competition now LOL!
I tried their pupusas and they're the absolute best, fresh maize dough (masa), no lard, not greasy, no unhealthy and toxic vegan cheese, simply great. Also, their enchiladas are devine, they're fresh, great, and delicious. They make them to order and not to mentioned their tortillas are hand made, yum! I also tried their bfast tofu with cactus (nopales) and it was extraordinary. Deserts are also delicious! Also, the service here is delightful. The owner is very friendly, kind, funny, and caring. The ambiance is also pleasant, relaxing, and cozy. Please don't think it twice and give them a try, you...
Read moreEXCELLENT service!!! Very friendly & helpful staff. Good food for a reasonable price. This is a no-tipping restaurant, so prices are better than they appear! Everything is freshly-made with premium ingredients and there are LOTS of meat, vegetarian, & vegan options to please any crowd. One of our favorite options was replacing meat with Portobello mushrooms in many dishes. All of the dishes are lightly-salted. The tzatziki was the saltiest item and I really enjoyed it.
The guacamole is good, as are the salsas. Chips are ok...pretty hearty...I prefer lighter chips. The pupusas were really good. The caesar salad was excellent. My favorite entrees are the cholay (curry) and saltado. I love the green cilantro sauce that comes with the saltado!!! The red pozole was good. I'm not a huge fan of pozole, but that's not their fault. The cheese enchiladas didn't have a ton of flavor, but my daughter liked them.
I'll definitely return to try more of the unique items on their extensive and creatively-created menu!
The art on the walls is beautiful and inspiring. I got the feeling that the staff/owners feel & provide a strong connection with their neighborhood. What a gem! Highly...
