UPDATE: While many who are scorned by the dreaded touch of poor....well...everything when it comes to a resturaunt, I am a different breed. I feel criticizing restraunt publicly allows them to ahift and make changes for better or worse. The establishments that do, thrive most times in an age of constant flux. Those that do not are either relegated to "Local Favorites" or close thier doors. Thankfully I was treated to the former. The host(ess) stand was still back facing however the hosts were extra attentive. The service was improved and quick to take orders and address gueats needs. The waitress was far more educated on the going ons of the menu and specials. The bread was actually warm and pleasent. Did it change in to a Michellin star resturaunt? No. BUT change was made, everything was improved. The food was better taken care of and checked for quality. The shovels of salt were changed to spades. Is this a family resturaunt? Yes. Is it good? Why yes, yes it is. Hearty portions well maintained for quality and consistancy is mantra and I am happy that the management took a step to take what was, to forge it in to what is. Will they see me again? Definitly after making such good changes. I look forward to what the Chef and the management will do with thier menu next.
ORIGINAL REVIEW (Enjoy) To call A Tavola a great experience would not do justice to those I have had previously. Although my experience was not "Bad", persay, it did not enrapture me to want to consume again and again. Approaching the host stand was an odd job to say the least. Customers gathered at the fore like cattle at the fence line. Attention was not given quickly but not slowly. Everything seemed quite casual and OVERLY close together for the times we live in. The waiter we were provided had rudimentary knowledge of the menu but not enough to entice me beyond the rather acute descriptions on the menu. The real dissapointment began with cold bread and grocery store olive oil followed by a second bread basket that was warm.....but burnt-ish. ....To say that we were hungry would be an understatement so we ordered an appetizer......it never came. It was forgotten and lost in the Italian warp space of an Applebees playing pretend. Entrees? I weighed between cooking hamburger helper for myself or going to A Tavola. I made the wrong decision. Lasagna was nothing more than tomato soup and a garnish of pasta served in "Classy" casserol dishes like a farm to table outdoor country side restraunt. Flavor was not terrible although the cooks should restrain the shovel they use to add salt to each of their dishes.
The manager eventually caught wind of the missing appetizer and did her best to compensate us and for that...WE SALUTE YOU! Ma'am, whomever you are, you were the highlight of our meal.
In closing, if you consider Applebees, TGIF and Chilis a fine evening for a date or a family meal, then A Tavola is the place with good management, OK food and a clean environment. I look forward to the hopeful improvement on quality control and...
Read moreI went with friends to try out this Italian restaurant after work. We made reservations online; so when I arrived ahead of my party I was seated right away. The restuarant has a happy hour featuring $3 beer, and $6 cocktails. I really enjoyed the Italian Margarita. There was no specials just what is offered on the menu. We had spaghetti and meatballs, paneed chicken fettucine Alfredo, parmigiano with linguine, and roasted Brussels sprouts with pancetta, hazelnuts, Romano cheese and aged balsamic glaze. They served bread while we waited for the meal. The service was just okay. It wasn't overly busy, but our server was not very attentive. We had to ask for tea refills, more bread, and request the dessert menu when it was not offered to us. The food was good. It came out hot and steaming. The Sunday sauce was flavorful and not very acidic for a red sauce. The Alfredo was thick and creamy. We ate only half the entre as the portion of pasta was large. The lemon mascarpone cheesecake with fresh berries and whipped cream was big enough to split. It was very good, light and fluffy, and not super sweet like a New York cheesecake. The fresh berries description was a stretch. The cheesecake has 1 blackberry, and 1 strawberry. My other 2 girlfriends split a chocolate tart with an espresso gelato. They had mixed reviews on the taste. Overall it was a good experience. Service has room to improve. I spent $50 on a happy hour cocktail, Brussels sprouts appetizer, panned chicken and Alfredo pasta, and split the cost of...
Read moreOooo boy, just no. I was there with a group party (reserved party). The service was beyond slow, most food items they were out of (this was a Thursday)...we were told that non alcoholic drinks would have to wait because they were out of clean glasses...ordering bar drinks was just as terribly slow at the table, you do better at the bar, but not by much
Beyond that if you want bread you better be prepared to ask because they weren't forth coming with that, we only found out about it from a repetitive diner in the party and the WAIT TIME for EVERYTHING was ridiculous considering the amount of people in the establishment....so free bread should've been given at the ready if they wanted to buy time.
Plenty of people ordered a dish and were not told that half the protein didn't exist in the kitchen (crab), they had NO PROBLEM charging FULL PRICE for half a dish...the other half available, the protein was such a pathetic amount most would blush in shame....it seemed they took 1 veil cutlet and cut it into 3rds to serve this party...absolutely embarrassing amount of food for the price.
One of our party members had to wait a ridiculous amount of time for their food....nothing was voluntarily comped until we pushed because the whole experience for a company Christmas party was...
