What an absolute Surprise! I went in here not expecting too much to be honest but it turned out to be a fun and tasty experience.
The décor throughout had a funky 70-80's feel to it but certainly maintained and reasonably clean compared to some other establishments. From the moment you walk in you are given a choice - Right for the mini-market with all the standard stock of any good Asian grocery or LEFT for the restaurant/bar.
We chose to sit in the bar area instead of the main service room and quickly picked through the extensive menu for a tasty lunch.
As others have mentioned, there are Indian, Chinese, Nepalese and Thai options - WoW! The lunch and dinner combo's are a bargain at $7.49 including a reasonable portion of rice and a crispy egg-roll.
I went for a medium spiced lamb curry and DANG - it was MAGNIFICENT! Probably one of the best I've ever had! Cardamom, clove, cilantro...nice soft chunks of lamb - Amazing! We also grabbed a Samosa starter which was packed with flavor and had a tasty homemade chutney.
Overall - we loved the food, the price is great and the location and funky style tied it all together. Great place for a relaxing, informal lunch or dinner...a SCOTCH and a have a round or two on the digital slots while waiting for your food! Looking forward to going back and trying the Pad Thai!
Update 2023 - still amazing, good prices and fun atmosphere. Recommend the biryani (any flavour) and just tried the chicken curry with rice tonight -...
Read moreI was visiting from out of town and craving Chinese. Used my GPS to find one near by. GPS had "Empress of China" listed as favorites for the area. The location name is not listed on Google but comes up under "Chamling Kitchen & Bar."
When I went in I got a weird vibe seeing a full bar with gambling machines in the back. I placed my order and waited at the bar when some transient/homeless appearing person approached me for food.
I was later informed that they did not have broccoli to make my order. I requested for chicken & mushrooms instead but told they don't have mushrooms. (What Chinese restaurants doesn't have mushrooms?) I just requested a refund. For that one meal.
When I got to my friends house to eat. I noticed first they did not provide an egg roll [like every Chinese restaurant]. When I opened the containers the rice was over hydrated, and chicken was poached instead of fyed or grilled. [Poached chicken is a horrible way to cook poultry].
PARKING- large areas to park for free.
ATMOSPHERE- decorative particle board, plastic & cheap metal decor. Window allow natural light in.
PRICE- average for Chinese restaurants. [Not worth the horrible taste nor volume of...
