The service was friendly, and I never felt ignored. However, the pizza was put in 10 minutes late after I ordered. Once our server explained why, I had no time to be frustrated. Four poor souls behind us were attempting the Massive Gibbon Challenge and our server was the timekeeper. This is a 15-pound pizza that must be eaten in 40 minutes by a minimum and maximum of four people. Winners get the pizza free, a $100 gift card, and bragging rights. We were in for a show. And we got one. Dough heavy and no meat from the hog being spared, the pizza was delivered on its own table. With much cheering from the restaurant crowd, the four moved into the pie. They started strong as each got his first piece down. As they sat down to the second piece, the doubt crept into the room. They started to exchange knowing and worried looks at each other. The chewing slowed drastically and became more deliberate. A third of the way into the second piece the two larger guys faded. But the thinner one rallied. He stood up, turned his baseball cap backwards and, like a boxer, shook his head from side to side while performing a small, in-place dance. He sat back down and finished his second piece. All to the cheers of the crowd. Too little too late, however. Forty minutes passed and there was still well over half left. Still, they were hailed as heroes for even trying. And the whole restaurant let them know. It was excellent to watch. And as they boxed everything up and turned to leave, I was left wondering how long the leftovers would last and how many tums they would need to feel right. At any rate, during this time I had forgotten we had even ordered pizza and was surprised when it came. The pizza was just OK. I cannot blame DiOrio’s for this. I decided to try something new and ordered the pepperoni and artichoke heart pizza. Not a fan. Sorry all you artichokes lovers. Being a Friday night there was also a DJ/singer. We heard songs from the 80’s – 2010 with no genre structure at all. The crowd loved it and we heard selections like “Moves like Jagger” followed by “Chicken Fried". With the centerpiece of the Gibbon Challenge, it seemed weird yet appropriate. I...
Read moreThis used to be the place to go. After last night we will mever be going again. First off it was NOT busy. Our server had 3 tables before we walked in playing trivia. They had already had there food. 2 tables needed there tickets. Her hair was long and down along with being in her face and over her shoulders. Thats a health code violation. (Bartender had her hair in a ponytail) we ordered and seemed to be going great. She brings out our hot pizza and almost drops it in my husbands lap. No sorry. She doesnt say 1 word. We have no silverware or plates. So we wait. She walked by us twice looks to see we havent touched the pizza. Says and does nothing. Then walks by again and sets 3 plates on the table. No silverware. Still doesnt say a word. My 10 year old had to politely ask for silverware and she says yeah. Goes and gets it with again not saying a word. We eat. Then she comes back and asks us if we need a box. My husband says yes. We have half a pizza left. We ordered a 20 inch. She brings us a small box that fits 1 piece in it. We sit the box next to the rest of the leftover pizza. She sees this comes and places the bill on the table. Circle us multuple times waiting for us to pay while she is on her phone and cleaning her tables. She was also twirling her hair while on her cell phone on the floor in plain view. This is also a health vode violation. My husband places his card on the check and she rushes over to grab it. My husband refuses to give it to her and says i need a box. Does this box look big enough as she has walked by us almost 20 times seeing the extra pizza still sitting on the tray. She catches an attitude and says fine ill get another one. When she came back with the box i told her to lose the attitude quickly or she could pay this bill herself. She walks away huffing about it to run our card. Mind you i made eye contact with her several times as if i needed something not once did she come over to check on us or see if we were ok. The only reason im giving 2 stars is because the pizza we did eat was good. I have the girls name...
Read moreMy partner and I were in the highlands touring and decided to try this neat place out after viewing their menu online. It was a little late on a Friday night and we knew we wanted quality pizza and wings. It was quite perfect that they were open late. It was a laid back "Mom and Pop" establishment and the atmosphere was great for a couple of out-of-towners! The first thing we noticed upon arriving was the music playing, great selection. We sat down at the bar, were greeted promptly, and ordered food with some drinks. We were quite fond of the bartender, although displeased that we did not catch her name. She was quite the character and chatted with us throughout our meal and beverages. We ordered their cheese bread, fire hot wings, and a few slices of what I believe was named the "Gibbon.' Their dipping sauce and marinara were spectacular! I would of given a better rating, as we loved the food and company but quite the incident occurred with a waiter on staff and a sweet looking young couple having drinks not too far down the bar from us. The waiter appeared visibly ruffled and under the influence, sloppy, and very unprofessional. He was yelling and slurring very vile things to the couple, whom seemed to be paying no mind to him. It put quite the damper on our visit, as the few other guests in the restaurant appeared to be uncomfortable, as well. The couple eventually left and thankfully we did not see much of that despicable waiter after the fact. The wonderful bartender gave us her sincerest apologies and continued to remain as great company for the remainder of our meal and beverages. If we are ever to return to Kentucky for a swift visit, we would most surely at least order their food to go or hope this waiter is not ours! (I hope I am leaving a review for the correct location, as two other locations were also listed. Our dining experience was located in the Highlands of Louisville, Kentucky. Cheers,...
