So I'm half Hispanic and grew up eating street tacos with my dad. He tricked me into eating a lingua taco when I was little. He wouldn't tell me what it was until after I fell in love. I haven't found good lingua tacos in over 10 years, but El Comal came through! To get to the point, their service was so friendly, I felt like family (even with my wild 4yr old) when I was ordering take out. They had the food to me in about 5min too! The restaurant was very clean feeling, like the air was fresh and the bathroom was spotless. They did a cool remodeling job. It looks like they kept some of the original decor from when it was an American Cafe for years, but they added a Hispanic twist. For instance, they had fortknox designs beside dancing sugar skull characters on the bar top. The food was all very good! I was surprised when I asked about fajitas and they don't do those. When I thought about it, I really respected and liked that because they aren't your average mexican restaurant. They do lots of street food style dishes, and they have a unique menu. Their salsa was amazing, too!! To top it off, I got food for 3 people for 35$. The prices are great, the food was great, the service and interior were great. There's nothing to not like for this girl! Oh I almost forgot, they even had vegetarian options on the menu that looked so yummy! Definitely recommend this spot for locals and visitors! This is another louisville gem that is seemingly underrated. SUPORT...
Read moreI decided to give this place a try after seeing the good reviews suffice to say I was left disappointed and still hungry. I get there and place my order, Arroz Con Steak. Ive had it plenty of times before it's super easy dish. Rice, cheese, meat. I place my order then go to use the bathroom. When I return roughly 45 seconds later Im told my food was ready. Man that was quick! Im unaware of anything that can be cooked that quickly. I get my food and leave and park nearby to eat. The chips are cold, brown from either dirty fryer oil or being burnt. Whatever I understand getting old chips Ill just enjoy my entree I think. No the meat was just like the chips; old and burnt. The rice was the only decent thing but the texture of it was very gooey and watery. I return to the restaurant w/ the entirety of my meal still intact and relay my concerns to the waitress with the intent to just get some tacos and call it a day. Nope her response to my concerns were "The chips are supposed to be cold." Cool but are they also supposed to be burnt and unseasoned? "I don't know what to tell you its good food. People like it." Okay, Im telling you I dont like this and its gross. "Im not going to change it. Sorry. Its good food." I told her I disagreed, left the food on the counter and left; disappointed, hungry, and $11 shorter. Would not recommend. Tacos La Chaparrita down the street is actual authentic and fresh made...
Read moreAmazing service, amazing food, and just overall great people. Anecdotal evidence: I ordered food through their online portal.on July 4th for lunch. I went to pick it up and they were closed, super bummer. I went back the next day to explain the situation, and told them just to buy me a beer (KY, you can't just give it away. Wanted to clarify so no one gets in trouble) and we'd call it even. I get my beer, and they bring me chips and salsa as well. About halfway through, they come back with a refund receipt for my order from Monday. I have been back twice since by myself for lunch, and done the whole family dinner their twice since. Every time, the experience has been welcoming and friendly. Their food is incredible, the lengua is some of the best I've ever had, and they offer great taco options for people that don't just want cilantro and raw onion. I am partial to the Tacos Especial with the crema and the avocado. So good. Super affordable too! Can not...
