This is a saga about delicious dumplings. Please indulge in my flavor thrill ride from King Dumpling.
It was Friday August 16. I just finished work, got home and was pleasantly surprised when my parent’s car was parked in front of my suburban box on the hillside. Why? Because it meant date night with my lovely wife.
While she was showering and getting ready my taste buds spoke to me and said “Mickey it’s time to tantalize us. It’s time to rock us. It’s time to break free from the suburban restaurant slump and try something new. It’s time to take us to king dumpling.”
So to king dumpling we went.
Upon entry we were greeted by an array of extremely friendly staffers who were quick to recommend a comfortable seat and very thoughtful about walking through the menu and making recommendations.
We opted for two dumpling dishes. Pork soup dumpling Shrimp steamed
We also got one . Shrimp and spicy pork
And a cucumber salad, because veggies.
Here’s how each dish tasted.
Cucumber salad. Sweet and refreshing this was a great way to freshen up our palettes for the onslaught of amazing dumplings. Pro tip dip the cucumbers in a mix of soy sauce and their hot sauce for a sweet, salty, spicy combo.
The Soup Dumpling. Delicate exterior gives way to a light yet flavorful soup and a big pork bite. They coach you how to eat these without burning your mouth, which was much appreciated. My wife liked this dumpling the most.
Shrimp steamed dumpling large and colorful this was mixed with spinach for a hearty and earthy bite.
Shrimp and spicy pork wonton. This was the star of the show for me. The these green dumplings swam in a sea of creamy yet spicy sauce and were topped with an extremely generous portion of sesame seeds for a nice light crunch.
My taste buds left very satisfied and I’m sure they will want me to come back to king...
Read moreI was excited and enraged. I busted up the place. I shattered crockery. I was an elephant in a delicate, carefully crafted space.
Well. I went in for the first time there a couple of months ago to order take out, soup dumplings. I love me my soup dumplings. Also got some Crab Rangoon. I love me my Crab Rangoon.
I placed my order with the very friendly person up front and then went to wait, trying to sit down at one of the cute, cozy tables nearby. The interior is super nice for a space dictated by a strip mall location. This also dictates efficient use of space, so the small tables on the sides of the room are close together.
I have a bum ankle, a disability. The tables have beautiful pale clay soy sauce pots on them, shaped like tea pots and with a texture that makes you want to touch and stroke.
Do you see where this is going?
Trying to squeeze between the tables, I dumped and shattered two tables worth of pots. I was mortified.
Here's the thing. The staff rushed over to clean up. I was babbling the whole time about paying for the damage. The staff person who came over laughed and said "It happens all the time. I broke one earlier today adjusting a table." Someone else from behind the counter: "I shattered two just last week!"
Patently untrue and so sweet!
So, great people and the dumplings were awesome. Wouldn't order the Crab Rangoon again, too sweet for my taste but that's me.
The best thing is, as you're waiting, after you've calmed down and feeling better after having wrecked the joint, you get to watch the owner right up front at the counter making EACH AND EVERYTHING DUMPLING BUY HAND, TO ORDER.

Read moreThis place opened two weeks ago and we heard that there was a new dumpling place that opened up so we decided to check it out. Since it was soft open the service was a little slow but that’s okay.
This place definitely filled the craving for a good steamed bun and met my expectations. At first I thought it might be a bit pricey than expected, but after actually getting it, I find it quite reasonable. The buns are fresh made and you can taste it. They are fluffy and soft and the filling is quite flavorful. They come in 5 and are quite satisfying
I also got the beef noodle soup as well. The noodles were fresh made and tasty and the beef was good, but the broth was a bit on the lighter side for me. It could have used some ginger or a bit more flavor. Definitely ask for the house chili oil, as that does elevate the soup.
Overall I’ll definitely be back for lunches and having the buns and trying the...
