Tonight, my wife and I with our toddler and our friends with their toddler tried to go to the Story Ave location of Back Deck BBQ. We weren’t sure where to park but we found spots in the lot behind the building and saw people walking in through the back door so we thought that must have been a back entrance since we had gone around the block and didn’t see any other parking. We saw that it said Sergio’s parking but then didn’t see any signage for Sergio’s so we assumed it was old/outdated. Anyway, we parked and walked through that back door, and we quickly realized we were in the WRONG place as we walked through. Someone who worked there (looking at pics and reviews now I think it was Sergio but am not sure) said “oh a baby!” Then saw us behind them and said “another baby.” He was clearly not happy to see our babies and was letting us know they weren’t welcome. We definitely knew we were not in the right place anymore and my friend tried to walk out the front door when someone yelled at her to “keep the front door closed!” I stopped and said “we’re obviously in the wrong place, we’re looking for Back Deck” that’s when he shook his head like he didn’t know where Back Deck was/couldn’t help us, and said “well I hope you’re not parked back there, you’ll get towed real quick” so we turned around and walked back out to move our cars and as we turned to walk out a woman yelled “yeah they don’t have any parking.” Everyone’s tone was SUPER rude, it really felt like racism and homophobia. They made it abundantly clear that we were in the wrong place, were not welcome, and had zero interest in helping us find the restaurant we were looking for. We were obviously very uncomfortable so we ended up just going to the Kenwood location of Back Deck where the food and service were incredible. It was just super sketchy and uncomfortable, when all they had to do was politely tell us where Back Deck was and let us know we couldn’t park in that parking lot. I’ve now reached out to others and found that this is an ongoing problem and it seems that Sergio is purposely heckling Back Deck customers, bullying them, and making it very clear that they don’t want that business next door. Do not patronize this establishment! Instead, go support...
Read moreI'm not even sure where to start..this place is AWESOME! I have always thought this was just a beer package store but boy was i wrong. They have approximately 40 beers on tap and 100s...and I mean 100s of bottled/canned beers from ALL OVER THE WORLD. If you have ever called yourself a beer drinker....you need to check this place out. Since my visit, I have kicked myself in the rearend for not stopping in here sooner. Sergio and his wife Kelly are amazing and super friendly. I asked for a little tour because honestly it is a little overwhelming with the amount of options you have. I asked for the nickel tour and got the full dollars worth. They do have a pretty good little menu of food (mainly bar typical food), so we ordered some and that was pretty darn good as well. This is one of those places you hope never goes away. I will caution, if you are a domestic beer (Bud, Miller, Coors, etc.) bring your wallet b/c those beers go for around $80 a bottle (not kidding according to the price tag)...however just about everything else is priced appropriately. Also, BRING CASH...they do have an ATM but this is a cash only bar. I will be back and I'm bringing friends! I do want to note that this is not some highend hip club/bar...this is your down to earth, local hole in the wall friendly bar. I mention this so as not to confuse anyone about the atmosphere itself. I personally loved the place, the people and the...
Read moreCash only. ATM in house but the fee is $3.05 for a $20 withdrawal. You can’t do flights on beers on tap. No visible signage, just open the door. Based on my experience, Sergio was unpleasant to talk to.
There’s so much selection to choose from and there is one for everybody, from everywhere. Lots of local beers on tap and bottled/canned ones in a dozen fridges but Sergio isn’t pleasant to talk to. I’m sure some have excellent interactions with him based on reviews but I didn’t. I asked if I can have a flight which is common for breweries and bars and instead of just saying “no” he went on a long-ish story about going to Paris this morning and how tired he was and how awful the flight was, which he wasn’t even telling me, as much as he was talking to my male friend who didn’t even ask the question. I didn’t care because it’s irrelevant, so I asked again if I can have a flight because he didn’t answer it and my friend had to connect the dots for me because I didn’t expect such confusing and backhanded replies to customers, lol.
Expect the beers to be anywhere from $5 - $20 which is reasonable to me, but food is overpriced for the low quality, I only got the fries though which was unseasoned and soggy. My friend had a burger which looked like public school lunch. Come for the beers but bring cash and talk to Sergio as little as you can if you’re not on...
