Google apparently doesn't allow you to do a new review, so I appended to the old one.
I had hoped to avoid a repeat of my past disappointing experience at AKA, but against my better judgment, I returned tonight after almost a year at the insistence of someone else. Reluctantly, I agreed to give it another try, even though my history with AKA has been less than stellar. Tonight's feature was the prime rib special, so I, like my partner, ordered it. When the plate arrived, it looked absolutely gorgeous—a feast for the eyes. Unfortunately, that’s where the appeal ended.
The prime rib itself was lukewarm at best, barely registering as warm, and the sides were downright cold—imagine the tepid temperature of something left in a bath too long. It was shocking for a meal that should have been served fresh and piping hot. I voiced my disappointment to the server, who, to their credit, offered to make it right. However, I declined—I have a personal policy of never sending food back, and I simply told them to consider it even.
Unbidden, a short while later, the server returned with a new plate, saying they had just watched the prime rib come out of the oven, perfectly hot. I was skeptical but hungry, so I reluctantly accepted the replacement. This was a mistake. While the plate was marginally improved, it still gave the impression of having been reheated in a microwave—an impression the server adamantly denied when I asked. Although this second attempt was better, it was far from what I would expect from a prime rib special. The sides were again a disappointment, being lukewarm at best.
It was clear to me that the prime rib had likely been carved from a refrigerated roast and inadequately warmed, resulting in a dish that failed to meet even the most basic expectations of temperature and freshness. Despite my hunger, I managed to eat most of it, but the experience left me feeling disappointed and regretful for having returned. Of course we paid for the whole meal.
It's a shame that the only thing you can trust is an order of french fries at any establishment.
AKA needs to seriously reevaluate its kitchen practices and quality control. Presentation may be their strong suit, but a meal needs to be more than just pretty—it should also taste great and be served at an appropriate temperature. This was my second time being let down by AKA, and it’s safe to say there won’t be a third.
....Older review from a year ago...I rarely write reviews unless I'm really PO'd. I will say I've had good meals and service here, but the food was not so good tonight. They were moderately busy and laid-back. With that said, I guess every cook has a bad day, and I was on the receiving end of that. The bison burger in the past has been very good, which indeed you pay more for. This time the Bison Burger was not good; it was overcooked and dry when I specified medium. I couldn't eat but a third of it; that is how overcooked it was. It might as well have been sawdust. It's a hamburger... not like cooking a filet mignon. The food overall was sitting under the heat lamps a little too long.
The server, of course, noticed I was unhappy, and I made it clear that it was not good and why. They offered to have it redone or another side, but I am an old hand in food service; I never send food back or have it redone for reasons I will not mention here. We did indicate that we would take the leftovers home because my partner likes a well-done burger. There was no discount on the check for the atrocious burger, even though we decided to take the leftover. I am fine either way but would have appreciated a bit of a gesture towards my dissatisfaction—you be the judge. I'm not sure I will ever go back, though it's been a nice place in the...
Read moreI usually go once a week. Because I meet my friend who lives nearby and walks there once a week. I just love the owners and I think it's important for them to know that things have gone downhill.
I miss happy and sweet Celeste behind the bar. Food is definitely hit and miss. This morning I ordered the pancake batter dipped bacon and it was definitely a miss I would have sent it back, However we were not checked on. To be honest the server had to do the whole room and there should have been two servers. We were not ever asked how we were doing or how the food was. I proceeded to peel all the burnt outsides and I left it on the plate when she picked it up and I told her that it was overdone and that it actually scratched the roof of my mouth and I was not able to eat it the way it was served I had to peel it. I was seriously hoping that I was going to get at least half off but no there was no I'm sorry or let me take off a few bucks. It was $12 Lucky for me I had a $5 birthday reward. ( I did tip 2.50) However it was really a bummer to use it on something that I really didn't enjoy whatsoever. I will continue to come in and we'll change this review if things start looking up again I do love seeing my friend and she's a regular. She had the apple caramel cinnamon roll which was a good size but $14 it should be a good size She was able to eat the whole thing so it's not that huge. I did try that and it was nice and soft. She has had one that was dry so it was hit and miss and for her today was a hit!! They have an excellent selection of cocktails and beers if you're looking for somewhere to take someone nice out for cocktails they have a very nice outdoor space It's in downtown Loveland and you can walk around before or after. It is my hopes that things will start looking up again. To be fair I just brought my neighbor here for a full lunch and I received a lunch that my dear friend always orders and it wasn't half as good as what my friend orders so I think she is spoiled because she is a regular and now I feel there needs to be continuity in dishes. My friend receives twice the toppings and twice the side order so when I ordered it I was hoping to get what she got when I used to watch her eat and I didn't and that was depressing too.
My neighbor that I brought in though however she had the shrimp It's like a French dip poor boy I guess and she did enjoy it. It had a Cajun sauce on it that wasn't too hot so she was happy about that. Date Sept 2, 2025 11:10 am. FYI they ran out of cinnamon rolls within...
Read moreUpdate: About 5 hours later I became nauseous and had diarrhea all night long and into the morning. This place gave me food poisoning. Avoid at all costs.
Stopped in tonight for dinner with my best friend. They were not busy. Only a few tables there. She got the salmon and I got the chili short ribs. I substituted polenta with their sidewinder fries. Her salmon came out RAW. See attached photo. Completely unacceptable. The waitress apologized and offered to get her something else but she just wanted it taken off. She didn't want to get something else considering my food was lukewarm at best and the cheese on the fries was a craft single that wasn't even melted. Her meal was taken off the bill. I didn't even say anything about mine but I really should have. Especially considering it was $16 for food that wasn't even hot and clearly not fresh. After bringing my friend raw salmon they still made her pay the soda she didn't even drink. The waitress never came to fill up my water the whole time. I had to ration in through my meal. We waited forever for her to come run our card for the check. In fact we waited so long I started looking for cash in my wallet to cover the bill so we could just leave and not have to wait on her anymore. I would have been understanding if they were busy because I used to wait tables so I know how it is but they weren't busy. When she noticed I was swapping out for cash she immediately came over to run the card. So not only was the food terrible but the service was too. Except for the hostess who was super sweet. Overall, terrible experience and we will...
