My beautiful bride, youngest son, and I had to come up this way for shopping that was near. I had eaten at Nordy's for lunch a looong time ago with some guys from work. Since we were sort of near, and my bride loves BBQ (who doesn't?), we stopped at peak hours on a Saturday. We knew we would have a wait and were told about 45 minutes for the three of us.
Here comes the only knock we have on the service, we never got a text. After 45 minutes, we went back to the host. She told us a table was ready, and was very sorry they must have forgotten to page us since a table had been ready for a bit. I actually found this refreshing... Honesty, no excuse other than being human and then seating us without delay.
Our waiter stopped by quickly and explained the specials and took our drink order. Once we were able to look at the menu, he took our dinner order. He was very good at answering questions. We decided to get an appetizer of "Hillbilly Nachos" and we all split the "Feast for Two".
The "Nachos" were awesome. They were homemade chips topped with queso, jalapeño, sour cream and probably some other veggies plus BBQ sauce and we chose half pork and half lean brisket. The brisket was fairly lean too! This was a big plate and could have been a meal for two! We were glad we ordered.
I forgot to mention, at some point, our waiter used a plate, drew letters corresponding to each of the sauces and explained them. He did it backwards for him and nailed it.
When the "Feast" came, it was a feast. There was St. Louis-Style spare ribs, chicken, smoked sausage, and we got it with half lean brisket and pork, yes the brisket was still pretty lean. It came with a pasta slaw, different but very good, beans, Mac and Cheese, and cornbread muffins.
The meat was cooked to perfection. Falling off the bone, so delicious, BBQ sauce was an afterthought. The feast did not disappoint. We tried, but had to take leftovers.
One of the best parts, Nordy's is still family owned!!! I think we found our new...
Read moreWhen it comes to BBQ in Colorado there's only one place I've had which I would say is reasonable and that place is based out of Charleston SC and there third location is in Aspen CO and that's Home Team BBQ. With that said this place wasn't far behind that. When we pulled up I did like that they had a gravel parking lot but the decor was definitely too nice for it to be a great BBQ place.
When we walked in it had a real corporate vibe too it, which lowered my standards right away. We were sat right away and the first thing I always look for at a BBQ restaurant is if they have brewed sweat tea. To my excitement they had brewed sweat tea which I was really excited about and it tasted great (reminded me of southern sweat tea which is hard to find in CO). We started off with an appetizer of fried pickles. When they came out they had a great tasting breading on the dill pickle spears. For my dinner I ordered ribs along with pulled pork with a side of Mac and cheese and a spinach salad. The spinach salad came out and it tasted a great and it was a probably the most healthy option at a BBQ restaurant I've ever seen. Then my main entree came out.
It was presented just how I expect from any BBQ place, plastic dish with wax paper under everything. The Mac and Cheese was said to be homemade and it definitely looked and tasted like it was. The ribs had an okay taste but they were a little tough. If I went back I definitely wouldn't get the ribs. Then we get to the pulled pork. It was super juicy and had a great hickory smoked taste. I would recommend getting the pulled pork.
So over all I would go back because the BBQ did taste good, I just wouldn't get the ribs.
On a side note I did taste the rib tips and...
Read moreTried this place out this last Saturday. A pretty busy place but was able to get a table with a short wait (10 minutes over the 30 minutes quoted at about 1pm). Overall the place is a good but not great thus my rating. Better than the fast food competition but I've also had some really good bbq iny travels. We started off with the cheese fries which had a very good combination of toppings. The sauce adds a different dimension over just the cheese, bacon, and jalapeno. I had their special mule drink which was a good balance of the ginger beer, vodka, and apple cider. For entrees we had: Grilled chicken sandwich (plain) and a side of Mac and cheese. The chicken was a bit dry and seems may have been on the grill a bit too long, kiddo only ate about 1/3 of it for that reason. Brisket Dip Sandwich with a side of Mac and cheese. They give you the option of a bit more fat or marble for the cut, selected the marble. It was good, especially the inclusion of the crunchy onions and jalapeno. The Ju was pretty standard for a dip. The Mac and cheese seemed to have a basic cheddar sauce, creamy but nothing unique. Two meat selection with rib tips and Carolina pork. The rib tips were tender and seasoned nicely. Do remember that a tip you need to mind the cartilage. The Carolina pork was not dry but did need to use one of the bbq sauces at the table. I tried a bit of each and my favorite was the Kansas City variant. The sides I had with this were the green beans and the mashed potatoes. The green beans were ok although needed a bit more draining for my preference. The mashed potatoes are very buttery (was warned by our waitor) and the creamier kind as opposed to lumpy as some bbq...
