I'm not sure where the miscommunication came from, but it did happen. I asked the server for a classic margarita then asked what tequilas they had. I'm a huge fan of El Tesoro and it's hard to find so I was expecting to try something new. The server said that had just updated their tequila menu then handed me a whole list of tequilas to review and alas, they not only had El Tesoro, they had the Blanco, Reposado, and Añejo! I ordered Añejo and frankly should have questioned it right then as the waitress asked if I wanted it neat or on the rocks and if I wanted lime, then gave me a look when I said salt on the rim. My bad.
Two drinks were brought out and I noticed they didn't look like margaritas. One taste told me it was straight tequila and they confirmed the miscommunication. No problem, I can drink straight tequila, but my husband wanted a margarita. Waitress came back a bit later to say "you got the last two shots of that one." He ordered one with El Tesoro Reposado. Many many minutes went by, definitely too long to wait for a drink, my tequila on the rocks was gone, the chips & salsa were gone, and his water were gone, before we saw her again. We were worried his margarita would be watered down. This time, after "searching all of the tequila inventory," they claimed they "only have the most common tequilas." So I guess the brand new list I saw was false? Anyways, just ordered a house classic margarita.
On top of this, the tequila on the rocks I got was not the right color. I am fully aware not all ages tequilas have the orangey/brown color, but this brand does have some color. It was clear. But somehow I was still charged the premium price for the El Tesoro Añejo. I did never mention my suspicion on this, may be on me, but I don't like confrontation and mistakes happen. Just seems several mistakes happened.
Food was good, restaurant got smokey which caused my husband to go into a coughing fit but I understand mistakes happen in the kitchen. The classic margarita we ended up with was delicious, definitely had some sort of unique flavor. Place was clean and everyone was friendly despite my assumption over their irritation on the miscommunication and my seemingly demanding nature. They also had numerous vegetarian options which was great for my husband. We didn't get a chance to try the fried ice cream because of the smoke which was a shame.
It was a Friday night, so there's that. I'd come back to be honest, although I'm not a local. I always give places another try. And I admit, it's in a way my fault for not speaking up in the first place. Just sucks when a bunch of stuff goes...
Read moreMy husband and I visited Palomino Mexican Restaurant today. The front desk clerk was very nice and very helpful. We decided to sit at a booth in the bar. The server/bar tender Aspynn was terrible. It took her for ever to come to our table to take our drink and food order. We appreciate the free chips and salsa (thank you) however the salsa tasted like it was bad or fishy.
Our food took so long to get to the table. When it finally arrived, it was very cold. Because it had sat under some type of heat source, the cheese within the burrito coagulated.
Our server never checked to see how our food was or say you're welcome when my husband and I thanked her. When I did not refill of my one alcohol drink she did not ask if I would like something else to drink, just walked away. Yes, I would have loved an ice tea.
We asked her for our check and two regulars of hers walked in and sat at the bar. At which time, we overheard her tell them next Saturday was her last day and continued on with her conversation with them. It took her another ten minutes to get us our check. My husband and I understood then why we received such horrible service from her.
We notice on the menu, they now charge a 3% kitchen and dishwasher fee (image attached). I'm fine with restaurants suggesting we offer to tip to the back of the house, however I feel they should be tipped just as a server is tipped on service. NOT automatically add 3%. If the food is terrible, then the tip will reflect the food and if the service is terrible, the tip reflects the level of service received.
When I was younger, I worked in restaurants and the servers were required to give 3% of their tips to the bar tenders, back of the house and host desk. This ensured that the staff worked together as a team.
We do not recommend Palomino Mexican...
Read moreDo not attempt to host a party or book catering at this restaurant. You will be disappointed. We booked our staff (teachers) holiday party at this restaurant, being told we would have a private space. We called to adjust the number before the event as requested, and they later said that call was not made. However when we showed up, they knew that the number arriving was our adjusted number and placed us in public seating because we "didn't have enough people" for the private room. Then, they assigned one server to 36 people and charged us for 50 people at the end of the night, saying that we had never called to let them know we had fewer than that. We can't have the private room because you know we don't have enough people coming, but we still have to pay for 50 because you didn't know we had less coming? We were told that we had to talk to the catering manager, who was not on duty, so we had no option but to pay that evening. After several days of trying to deal with that manager we have given up having the restaurant do the right thing and refunding the cost of the prople we paid for who weren't there. Poor customer service. And lying on top of it. We did as you asked us to do before the event. I don't typically write reviews, but this was the worst case of customer service I have ever experienced. If you support teachers and businesses that treat people fairly and respectfully, please do not give this place your business. And also, do not believe any attempt on the part of management to dismiss this as someone who is angry because they didn't do their part in a catering contract. We...
