honestly i saw another review from 10 months ago that said the place smelled like urine and thought to myself “wow, that can’t be true” but somehow it still smells like urine 10 months later. the outside is sooo cute i was so bummed that the inside atmosphere doesn’t reflect the exterior at all.
when we entered we were first confused as to which entrance to go to, there was 2 wide open doorways and then a staircase to the rooftop (didn’t see any wheel chair accessible options to get up there). the rooftop/staircase looks to be a part of the building but has a different name and pin on google maps and a big sign that said something like fusion, sushi, etc. so we thought it was a completely different restaurant at first. we entered through what looked to be the main entrance and were shocked to see it was completely empty, dark, dingy, and smelled of urine. the downstairs staff were friendly, but were completely lost and confused. the host mumbled buffet a couple times and then couldn’t find any menus and then led us to a rock hard booth seat with a sticky table. he then said that they weren’t serving the menu downstairs and it was a buffet. we saw no buffet… and there definitely wasn’t any signage at all. another staff member then came to our table and asked if we were here to sit upstairs and we agreed to instead.
the upstairs staff was lovely and super nice! our waiter was super sweet and efficient.
as for the food, it was mediocre at best. to be a fusion place but have mexican food, sushi, american, etc. at least one of them should be nailed or on point but my partner’s ribs were dry and they put hardly any bbq on them. mind you they were also out of burger buns and their signature calfornia bbq sauce by 5pm which is regular dinner time and it was extremely slow. i got sushi, and the options were limited. upon reading other reviews i opted for a roll that didn’t have raw fish in hopes i wouldn’t get sick. they do not have the basic california roll, but thankfully our server was awesome and she helped customize a roll that was similar! sushi was okay, their spicy mayo was really good though. it came with a side of edamame but it was ice cold and unsalted.
for drinks my partner and i both got virgin strawberry daiquiris, which was the only blended drink option able to be made virgin.
after dinner we ended up going to use the bathrooms… just don’t. it was extremely dark almost like it was supposed to hide the horrors in there. according to my partner the men’s bathroom reeked of urine and the floors were soaking wet with god knows what. the women’s bathroom didn’t smell bad but it was far from clean. there was feces smeared all over the toilet and there is 2 stalls so i was forced to pick the better of the two. it was empty in the resturaunt and the staff was sitting at the bar… could we have cleaned the bathrooms…
i’ve never really left a bad review but just felt i needed to share because the outside is so cute it’s almost misleading 🥲🥲 i’ve worked in the food industry for several years so i know...
Read moreMy mom and I stopped here for lunch today before we left to drive back downstate after the 4th. To say it was a disappointment is an understatement. We went to the rooftop to eat, and were told it would be about a 15 minute wait, which was tolerable. We were seated around 1:30 pm, about 15 min later. Our waitress came to our table, took our drink order, came back with our drinks, took our food order, and we never saw her again. Fast forward about 25-30 min later, we had to ask another waitress for a refill on our drinks. Another 20-25 min go by, and no one has acknowledged us, not even the other waitresses. It felt like we were invisible, even though we were sitting in the middle of the room. We asked another waitress when our food would be out, and she said she would check. After that, another couple who sat down after us got their food and my mom and I decided to get up and leave since we had waited nearly an HOUR to get our food. While walking out, we told our waitress that we had been waiting for almost an hour, and she said that my ham sandwich was ready, however the kitchen was "backed up". I'm not sure how that was true since everyone else has their food. Our waitress said she would bring my sandwich out in a minute, however my mom's nachos still weren't done. We waited about 5 more minutes before my mom went up and grabbed my plate that was still sitting on the shelf untouched. She came back to the table, and I noticed that I had potato chips, when I had ordered coleslaw. This wasn't a big deal to me, but since my mom was already heated, she went back to the food shelf and yelled into the kitchen for coleslaw. After that, my mom finally got her nachos and our food was honestly mediocre. We had to yet again ask for the bill, and ask for it to be taken back. While we were leaving (2 hours later), I heard someone say loudly, "Poor girl, you can see how busy she is" (talking about our young, clearly new, waitress). The staff are lucky my mom didn't hear, or else things would have been much worse. They had about 5 waitresses working the rooftop, and our waitress had our table and maybe one or two others. I understand if you're a new worker, I've been there too, but the least you can do is check up on your customers. Especially the other waitresses. I'm sorry this review is long, thank you if you've read this far. This is the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant and I will never be coming back, even to the...
Read moreMy daughter and I were so excited to go to Blu Moon again! It had been a long time since we’d been there, but had fond memories of having delicious food and great service! We got a table quickly. The server came to our table quickly but seemed agitated and wasn’t very friendly. When we asked to start with a cup of soup she seemed confused. The soup was the best thing we ate the whole meal, but it wasn’t better than what I could make myself. Then my daughter ordered the kids fish & chips for my grandson and asked the server to put the order in first so his meal would come out asap. This request also seemed to confuse the server. My daughter then ordered the salmon and asked if she could replace the potatoes with a salad. The server said they won’t do that but she could have double vegetables instead. So my daughter ordered an additional side salad with ranch dressing. The dressing that came with the salad tasted like Hidden Valley ranch, which was disappointing. The salmon came with two HUGE helpings of starchy vegetables (corn and squash) which was confusing because she didn’t want the starchy potatoes so why would she want 2 starchy vegetables? Then the salmon, while cooked well, was too salty to thoroughly enjoy. I also ordered a side salad with blue cheese dressing. The dressing was awful and clearly came out of a container. Then I had the vegetable risotto, which was basically leftover rice and vegetables mashed together to look like risotto. And most of the vegetables were peppers, which are not my favorite. Blu Moon also serves sushi (which my daughter loves), but we weren’t offered the menu and didn’t know they were still serving it until we saw the table next to us enjoying their sushi. So, we left disappointed and feeling like we wasted a lot of money on food we could have made better ourselves. Sorry Blu Moon but we expected much better food and service than...
