I have the misfortune of living across from the Speakeasy. When the trading post was still a grocery store, we would go over and play pool in the speakeasy. It was typically a chill environment and enjoyable. Once they changed the trading post to a dance hall/bar, let’s just say the Traber’s & their customers are awful neighbors. The street is absolutely trashed the days following the establishment being open. People are lined up on the street waiting to get in. People used to hang out on the street, intoxicated and yelling after the bar closed. Now there are 2 large lights on the streets. Now cops sit at the end of the street, which has considerable helped the loitering problem. HOWEVER, the cops block the street- blocking the residents who LIVE HERE from parking. I hope this place shuts down sooner rather than later, as I miss my quiet street. Also, the other weekend they had these signs and i thought it was ridiculous.

These Fall drink specials have got me in the mood!! Adam, Zoe and Lillian were a great bartending crew. The pool tables were busy along with the incoming dart group. The Speakeasy could use a jukebox. Unfortunately the cook called out so I didn’t get to try their food.

Update October 2025: DJs play an increasingly small selection of music, they used to mix old 1980s-2000s dance songs with more current stuff. Now it's songs from the last 10 years that all sound very similar. What's the point of having two DJs if they play almost the same music? I'm sure the increasingly drunken clientele doesn't mind, but I do.

If you're looking for a place with a club atmosphere to spend time with your friends this your best (and only) option in Lynchburg. Now if you primarily go to clubs to dance, like me, the Trading Post is mostly a hit, but you have to find the DJ you like and try to guess when he'll be there. The primary issue with the Trading Post, especially for someone who comes soley to dance (me), is that there's no HVAC of any kind in the building. There are some big industrial fans, but they don't do much. This isn't too bad during cold months, but once it gets a little warm outside that building is sweltering, even for people not dancing. Also it tends to get packed, especially when Liberty's active. By the by, DJ Stu is the best crowd pleasing DJ and is overall your best bet to get songs to dance to. Just please, no more cupid shuffle (lol). Old Update: They added more fans, still hot as ever, and they now charge a dollar for 8 ounces of water, which is extremely annoying because I'm covered in sweat within half an hour and now I have to pay to keep myself from...

While I’m glad lynchburg has one business that brings some sort of night life to lynchburg with a big space and music , the operations of this business is poorly managed.

1)Service and door are the rudest and discriminatory practices I’ve seen in business.

  1. A good 35% of their business is underage kids from the community that I personally recognized as underage with fake IDs, this poses a huge livability for the business as they are committing a felony per underage sale and then have underage children who decide to drink and drive. This also leads a huge safety risk. This will also cause this business to be shut down like 2 others were, making less of a night life for the young adults who give business.

My recommendation is proper training for door and bartending , ID scanners and proper checks at the doors , according to many this business is on a hot list for compliance with the city, state, and federal regulations. Then lastly invest in a parking area by the business for rideshare drivers to get in and out and be able to wait for their guest legally.

This will make the business more successful and not have another good...

Disappointing and uncomfortable experience—twice. I visited this bar over the weekend and had a very odd encounter at the door. We had to knock to get in (which was already strange), and a man barely opened the door (just enough to show half his face) before telling us they were at capacity. As he said this, eight people walked out. I asked if that meant we could come in now, and he still refused to let us in. It felt arbitrary and unwelcoming.

Unfortunately, this wasn’t my first off-putting experience. The first time I visited around Halloween, I asked the DJ to play a throwback song, and he told me they weren’t allowed to play any hip-hop or rap because it “attracts the wrong crowd.” That statement said a lot—and none of it good. As a person of color, it was hard not to take that personally.

This place gives off strange, exclusionary vibes and has made me feel unwelcome both times I’ve been. I won’t be going back, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who values respectful,...
