Smells of paint thinner, rude staff, burnt coffee, better bread at Safeway. I have lived in Lynden for over 20 years and have visited the other avenue bread location on James street once before. My experience then was subpar, with staff that could care less, long wait times for simple items when they weren't even busy, and servers asking me to move so they could sweep under my table. Against my better judgement, I decided to try their new location because it was so close and I regret every minute of it. Once again the coffee I got was burnt and the simple breakfast sandwich took 20 minutes eventhough there was only one other customer. The bread, which is supposed to be their specialty, was very hard and chewy and pasty. I will also add that no one checked on my after I got my food and I took three bites and couldn't even finish the rest because the bread was so bad and the egg white was undercooked. I went to the counter to address the situation and the owner came out and was very hostile saying that I should have told my server before eating most of it. I had three bites and my server didn't check on my. No less, I paid nearly $20 for a burnt latte and food I didn't eat. Will NOT be returning and will spread the word. Go across the street to Dutch Bakery for breakfast sandwiches and delicious pastries which are cheaper, fresh, and full of nice people. As a last note, this place opened waaay to soon the wall I was leaning on left tacky paint on me. Ridiculous and a...
Read moreAvenue Bread just set up shop in Lynden. They really haven't been here long. They have a large selection of comfort food and sandwiches including mac and cheese and pot pies which you won't find many other places. They also have a line of burgers from locally grown grass fed beef which I appreciate. The trouble they went to with ingredients really shows in the food selection and the taste. It's not a restaurant so you won't really get a server, but it's nice and open and airy with big windows the kids can sit at and watch everything going on outside. They're also open on Sunday and I believe they are the only eatery open on Sunday in Lynden, so that alone gets my vote. The counter reminds me of Noah's Bagels so if you've ever been to Noah's you'll have an idea of the ambience of this place. I would also add that it's really an art to get bread toasted for sandwiches just right, not too soggy, not too greasy, and yet crisp but not burnt. These guys have...
Read moreBest burger in town. I tried the BEAST burger in Lynden location. Amazing fast and friendly staff. The burger comes with gras fed beed, bacon, an egg and fresh chopped avocado. Served on a freshly baked in house burger bun. The renovated farm building makes for an awesome cafe/store. BEAST sandwich for breakfast is good too. I think BEAST stankds for bacon egg and avocado. My only advise for Avenue Bread Management is : to get rid of the Cheap Vegetable oil for cooking on the griddle( it looks like cheap vegetable oil) use higher quality coconut, olive or avocado oil, even ghee is really good The jam you serve with your toast is full of high fructose corn syrup and is pretty nasty.... I don't even eat the breakfast anymore cuz the greasy hash browns ( however if you used coconut oil I will be back) But I still get the beast breakfast sandwich with added spinach (...
