I travel a lot so I always like to take the opportunity to try small local restaurants . The service was good however the product was disappointing. ATL Fusion BBQ is a funky little joint, the staff was engaging and helpful when ordering. I ordered the rib tips, smoked sausage sandwich, and the potato salad as a side. The majority of the menu is a la carte. The prices are very reasonable for the amount of food you receive.
The issue was the rib tips were not ready to be served. The rib tips were done, meaning they were safe to eat however they we're not tender. The meat probably needed another hour and a half to cook so the fat in the ribs could break down and the meat will become tender and juicy. The cartilage was still stark white and the fat in the meat had not rendered down any. These rib tips we're still rock hard and chewy. This isn't the way barbecue joints stay in business. You shouldn't sell products that aren't of the highest quality. It would have been more appropriate to say that the rib tips weren't ready and recommend something else. So either they didn't know that the rib tips weren't ready or they didn't care that they weren't ready. Eating tough BBQ is not fun.
I enjoy the sausage more, however it was overcooked which resulted in a very tough casing. Once I remove the casing the sausage had very nice flavor.
The real star of the night was the BBQ sauce that came with the meals. I ordered a mango habanero sauce that was just spectacular. The only reason I ate a couple of rib tips was because I was able to dunk them in the sauce. That sauce was so good it motivated me to power through all the chewing.
Overall the barbecue was really disappointing and I'm really disappointed that people who sell barbecue would sell something that wasn't ready to be consumed. Imagine going to any other type of restaurant and getting food that is technically safe to eat however it's not ready to...
Read moreWell, I am changing my review. After my first visit, the food was so awesome, we decided to have it for Thanksgiving Dinner. That was a big mistake. I purchased 3 slabs, and got orders to take back to Birmingham for friends that wanted to try them. The ribs did not have any meat on the bones and was very dry. The manager told me thats was how they look without the sauce. I told him, i was scared to reheat it for my dinner because it looked like it was already over cooked. He reassured me it was not. I do not think I will be going back. VERY DISAPPOINTED!! Not only was that expensive and a long drive, but it messed up my Thanksgiving Dinner. I had to end up frying chicken. And, it was also discrediting for me, as people value my opinion on food. THIS IS THE END OF MY REPOST TO MY FIRST REVIEW.....
First off, let me say the staff was very welcoming and patient with my son and myself. We came from Birmingham, Alabama to try this. The GM, Mike, did not rush us while we were asking questions because they have a variety of sauces and their side dishes are not regular. Everything has a name that makes it pop and sound delicious, and make you wonder what it tastes like. Who knew it was a such thing as Turkey ribs🤷?? But we got the pork rib(with Atl Fusion Sauce, AWESOME) combo's that come with 2 sides. The ribs were so tender we didn't even know we were eating the gristle, and fall off the bone, MY, MY, MY!! We tasted it on the way home, and had to pull over and call them to let them know how good it was, and to finish eating it😆😆. The only reason I didn't give them a 5 is because we got the end of the sides. But, we are going back this week first a second try.. NOT TOO EXPENSIVE... A DEFINITE MUST TRY!!! WORTH THE DRIVE...
Read moreThis place was good but some menu items could use a little work. I enjoyed the ribs I could taste the grill flavor and they didn’t taste baked but could be slightly more tender. The rib tips could use some work, it was just the ribs cut into chunks and no burnt ends or nothing different than the ribs. Don’t be like me and order both, it’s the same thing lol! I enjoyed the hot sausage it don’t has a kick of spicy and that’s why I loved it! All the sides I had were great my favorite were the green beans, then candied yams. The cornbread was good but if you don’t like sweet cornbread then don’t order it because it didn’t come with my order. Service was ok. I called prior to going and was told I could go in but when got there was greeted with they closed the inside early go through drive thru. I would have but they said it’s cool just come on in. It’s pretty small in there and not a sit down restaurant inside but they do have outside furniture if it’s nice out I would eat and enjoy the weather! The young lady taking our order seem to be over her shift and was not very customer service friendly. Also, her appearance was not suitable for a food establishment. The guy from in the kitchen was very helpful, he ended up answering all my questions and went over the order with me, as I placed a semi large order. Also brought all the food out to my car. The service is what brought it down one star and for the food, the ribs/rib tips were just ok bringing it down another star. I will go back and try brisket, wings, items I haven’t had and come back for an update. This place was overall good for the price, just not...
