Macon Bagels — Restaurant in Macon

Macon Bagels is the eighth wonder of the world. The bagels are hand-rolled and baked fresh each morning. Whether you go with the everything, sesame, or other classic offerings, there’s no wrong choice. The bagels have a delightfully crisp exterior with a fluffy, flavorful interior which makes for an impeccable breakfast, whether standing alone or as the star of a breakfast sandwich. While the bagels are perfection in and of themselves, the menu has many other items which elevate Macon Bagels from ordinary to extraordinary. By way of example, Macon Bagels makes their own kimchee from scratch, which they incorporate into a fantastic kimchee cream cheese. I have two go-to favorites. First, there is the classic sausage, egg, and cheese on an untoasted everything bagel with Kimchee cream cheese. Second, there is the “out-of-towner,” which features a homemade Benedictine spread with lox, capers, cucumbers, and house-pickled red onions. They also make an outstanding key lime pie. I'm biased. That said, this is a great story that I'll try to make short. The owners, a delightful couple, lived in Florida at the beginning of the pandemic. She started making homemade sourdough and other baked yummies for fun. She quickly landed a job as a baker for a little shop that wasn't really a bakery to begin with. (That shop has now opened a second location as a full time bakery after their rise to fame for their baked goods, with her help.) Through a random series of events, they decided to go it on their own after finding the perfect spot for a bagel bakery in Macon.

I, a Florida resident, was lucky enough to be traveling by Macon in the weeks after Macon Bagels opened, to try some for myself and, oh my goodness! So good. Everything bagel with garlic cream cheese. *Chef's kiss! Macon is a lucky town to have this...

Excellent bagels and home made cream cheeses. Good vibes and tasty coffee and cold brew.

Lines form out the door for breakfast bagels as soon as they open. There is parking right in the street in front.

Two ways to improve from what I saw was: When I ask for heavy cream cheese I mean it. Especially when it’s home made. I asked for heavy and was barely give any. On my egg sammich a fried egg is essential. They served one of those egg Patties which take away from the taste vine. They also didn’t have mustard or ham which is also critical from a breakfast sammich.

Otherwise it was still great. I would just triple verify an overload of cream cheese. More like I want some bagel with with my cream cheese. I will...
