L❤️ved this museum. Quiet and peaceful, everything a visitor could ask for in a museum. There are several classrooms that have local history in them, which are also famous individuals like Little Richard. Don't sleep on entering those spaces. There was even a film available to view in a couple of rooms.

The Harriet Tubman section is on the second floor along the stairway. Very detailed with complementary artwork. Next to her exhibit is Tyler Perry's section, impressive as well as informative. The section following details the long history of African Americans in the US, from the Transatlantic Slave Trade to inventors to civil rights activist and to today's African American history makers. Presented artwork comes from all over the nation, as well as different age ranges. Visiting exhibits and artists are one the first floor, with local history references. All are complementary to the museum overall.

I felt safe. I don't think I've ever had an unpleasant experience in Georgia, for that I'm very happy 😊. Thanks to the ladies outside who helped me with my free parking, I was again, very pleased as well as grateful. Parking alongside the building or in back is free. Parking in front, visitors must download the parking application and make their payment. There are police officers on duty...

Very difficult to get a response from staff. I have called and emailed on several occasion, but never a reply from anyone that I have attempted to contact. Specifically, I have attempted to contact Mr. Bruce, just to discuss the opportunity to display very old family photos taken by local photographers (Woodall) (Blackshear) photos are at least 100 years old. Additionally I asked about the possibly in the future of making a historical presentation, all subjects related to the Bibb & Crawford Counties. Did not get the courtesy of a response by email or text with a yes, no or maybe. Don't think I will try again as it appears no one there is interested in African American history presentations or displays. BTW there is no charge just wanted to volunteer and share some of my visual family history and a very exciting history of Macon that most never heard of. Attached are two...

Our visit to the museum was an amazing experience. We learned of Artists that were from Macon, Georgia. We all learned so much history about Harriet Tubman and others from her era. We also were in awe to see that Tyler Perry had his own room filled with his memorabilia and lifetime accomplishments. All three (3) of us said the trip was worthwhile and we would definitely return again to spend more time to read and learn more of the history of Harriet and others that were there in the museum. I think everyone should visit there, to have the joyous experiences and memories as well that we captured. The staff was very helpful and explained everything that we had questions about regarding the museum.

In a good way, it wasn't what I was expecting. If you haven't had exposure to the struggles or contributions of African Americans in Georgia, specifically Macon, this is the place to go. Displays are a minute reflection of the larger experiences Black Americans have had to endure. Their stories are portrayed through talented individuals and brave representatives who strove for equality. Exhibits also showcase current artist who skills are unbelievably good. Although larger cities house nationally recognizable collections you can't forget the local people who works quietly fight for equality. Admission discounts apply. COVID-19 protocols are enforced. Staff members are super friendly.
