The service was excellent. Refreshing welcoming staff when you enter, which feels great! The front door windows are clean (A huge cleanliness indicator W/me). Our server was top notch. She highly suggested the Leak Soup. I expressed a food alergy to corn starch and to please check for it hidden in words such as: "other food starches". Our server said she'd check first but she highly doubted fake ingredients & fillers would be in the soup, & she was pretty certain a rue would be used as a thickener in a restaurant of that caliber. So I asked: "So, you mean a rue of real cream or half & half, real butter (not "whipped with margarine [aka cheap whipped oil]) & real flour right?" She replied: "Oh yes mam, but I'll check to be sure." When she returned she said: "I'm shocked! I'm so sorry, but the soup is cornstarch based." I replied: "I am not shocked. You would be surprised how many so called: "fine dinning" restaurant use fake cheap ingredients these days yet their prices reflect that real ingredients are used." I ordered the Sushi. It was great and fresh. I also had crabcakes. They were more cake than crab but a good flavor. The salsa that came with it I suspect had corn starch. Any sauces that are shiny and jiggle like jam is a buyer-beware indication of fake cheap ingredients. I avoided it. My colleagues had steaks that were grilled to perfection & indicated their martinis were perfect as well. I suggest: Order what is on the menu that has the least "reverse engineering". Corporate could pay their OWN employees with what they bilk the public out of with their cheap ingredients! My related "Soap box": My French colleagues point out when they see me tip: "T.I.P. Is an acronym meaning: To Ensure Prompt Service, and was never meant for an American corporation to force the consumer to pay restaurant employees salaries. Omgoodness! Theyre right!! I'm now having service people separate the alcohol from the food on separate checks. I've interviewed many bartenders & they say their average tip to open a beer is 75 cents. If it is an artesian cocktail that requires talent and a generous pour, I tip more. Cash is king, so 15% on food. 20% if I don't have the cash (who knows how much they take from folks working this difficult work) . How dare a corporation force us to pay their Employees salaries, and like TRAINED SEALS we do it, only to recieve: #fakefood #cheapingredients #norealcream #norealbutter Signed: "A wanna-be president of: The Consumers Coalition Against Paying Restaurant Salaries. #CCAPRS #CAPRS...
Read moreHave dined at Embers several times, most recently for a birthday party. They sat our party of nine in the bar. It was okay, sometimes hard to hear people at the other end of the table. It was also pretty stuffy/humid. We had to ask them if the A/C was on! They did adjust it, and we were more comfortable. I have also dined in one of the private rooms - maybe the Club Room? Was for a holiday work event, and that was very nice!
The service we had most recently was EXCELLENT. I can't remember our servers name this last visit, but she was super attentive to us. She had good recommendations on the menu and was very professional and polite. We were rarely lacking for drinks or food. Overall, I have had very good experiences with service at Embers.
As a larger group, we did order a variety of items. We started with the wings, which most in our party went nuts for. I am not a wing person, so I had one, and it was good, but not my thing. However, we also got the duck fat fries - OMG, they came out super hot and crispy, and they were delicious with the dipping sauce. THAT is my thing for sure.
Two people got the filet mignon and raved about it. Two people got salads and said they were good. I think I need to try the wedge next time I go. Another person ordered sliders off the bar menu, and I have ordered those in the past. Another person ordered the stuffed avocado from the bar menu and said it was delicious.
This time, I got the sushi special - was something with lobster, asparagus, and sweet chili, I believe. It was good but not my favorite thing. I also got the tempura sea bass - that was MUCH better. In the past, I have also ordered sushi, and it's always been good. It ended up being way more food than I expected, so I took home the leftovers, and my son also agreed that he liked the tempura sea bass a lot.
Since we were celebrating a birthday, they sent us home with some Oreo stuffed donuts - which we scarfed down after we got back to my friend's apartment for some cupcakes and Prosecco. They were SO good!
Some of us kept asking, "why don't we come here more often...?" Granted, it's not the cheapest place to eat! But I think it's been a year since I ate there the last time, so that has been way too long. I definitely need those duck fat fries...
