I don’t know. I’ve lived in Madison for the past five years and this location constantly underperforms their state street location. The food I received today was subpar compared to the standard I’ve come to expect from this establishment. The breakfast sandwich I ordered was poorly assembled—the egg patty was burnt beyond recognition, and the portion of bacon was laughably small, about the size of my thumb. The breakfast burrito I received was similarly disappointing, with lackluster presentation and preparation.
With the recent price increases, it’s hard to justify ordering breakfast here as a “luxury” anymore. The sandwiches have seen a nearly fifty-cent price hike. While this may not seem drastic for this place, it’s worth noting that breakfast at Starbucks is now cheaper.
On top of the food issues, the service at this location has become frustrating. I have a disability and use a service dog. As per my rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), I am not required to have my dog wear a vest, particularly when I’m just picking up coffee for takeout. I have been a customer here for years, and suddenly, I’m being told my service dog cannot be in the store without any proper inquiry from the staff.
Under ADA law, staff are only allowed to ask two questions regarding a service dog: (1) Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability? and (2) What work or task has the dog been trained to perform? My service dog is well-trained and does not meet any ADA criteria for removal, such as being aggressive or not housebroken. Yet, no one asked me the required questions before making the decision to deny entry. This is a clear violation of my rights under the ADA.
I don’t usually leave negative reviews, but this situation has become increasingly ridiculous. It’s now worth the 15-minute walk down State Street to avoid the poor...
Read moreI have been to Colectivo Coffee on the square several times over the past few years and have enjoyed the food, coffee, and ambiance; so I am very disappointed to say that my experience today was dreadful. I understand that we are all experiencing different practices in restaurants and eating/drinking establishments due to Covid - most of which are logical. First of all today, when paying for an item, I attempted paying with cash which was not even accepted. I understand REQUESTING that people utilize card instead of cash, but to flat out not accept cash seems to be both ridiculous and poor business sense. Following my purchase (via credit card, because luckily, I did have plastic available) and being pregnant, I needed to use the facilities, only to find the bathrooms blocked from use. I asked if I could use the restroom and was told they were not available. Not out of order, but just not available to use. I clarified that even as a paying customer, I was not allowed to use the restroom and was appalled. It is completely outrageous that at a food and dining establishment, there are no restrooms available for paying customers. Covid or not....people still need to be able to rely on facilities being available at restaurants or places selling consumables. I assume this is not a city mandate, as other businesses do have restrooms available, so I implore Colectivo to please....OPEN YOUR RESTROOMS...
Read moreMy only visits to Colectivo-On The Square come on Saturday mornings during the Dane County Outdoor Farmer's Market. My Farmer's Market experience is tightly controlled by tradition and long experience. It's where I get my breakfast on Saturday mornings and coffee has always been a central part of that experience. As all of the options for coffee vendors at the Market have disappeared (inexplicable!), the brick and mortar coffee places are now the only choices. Thankfully there are several good ones, but for my purposes, Colectivo fits the bill perfectly. Their fresh brew options are delicious, always served piping hot and freshly brewed, and at a very fair price. Their staff is pleasant and friendly and their service is fast and efficient. Thanks, Colectivo Coffee, for keeping the coffee in the...
