Yum yum. The new-to-me dining experience I decided I'd try this week was Valentina's Kitchen - a cute lil permanent fixture at a gas station right on the fringe of Madison and Huntsville.
Valentina's keeps the menu pretty simple, which I really like. Your choice of a variety of meats (roasted chicken, carnitas, barbacoa, al pastor - just to name a few) can be applied to a burrito, tacos, quesadilla, or torta. Pretty straightforward. I love when chefs do a few things and do them all well. You can get bottled drinks if you're thirsty - think I spied "Mexican Coca-Cola" but I didn't order a drink so I'm not sure.
You can order at the window or call ahead. There's a couple of picnic tables nearby if you wanna eat there, but considering it was a chilly, ugly day, I took my food to eat in the car. I would recommend eating it quickly, especially if you got a torta like me -- don't want any of this loveliness getting soggy or anything.
The young lady working the truck was warm and polite. She cooked my roasted chicken torta for me fresh - and fast!
It came on two beautiful slices of bread, perfectly balancing soft, pillowy dough with crispy, tearable edges. The smoked chicken had tons of flavor and wasn't dry at all. Other toppings included jalapeños, tomatoes, lettuce, Mayo, and Valentina's "special sauce" - which had a nice creaminess and subtle heat.
Be warned, this sandwich can be pretty messy - I'd make sure to eat it over the container it's served in, lol. But it was very, very, very tasty - and I'd absolutely...
Read more8/24 Update: It has been awhile so I had to go hit up the new location. The giant burrito called to me! Still the same amazing food and great customer service as before. Everything tastes fresh and it's still one of the best burritos I've ever had.
You know a place is good when you try a place for the first time on your lunch break and go back your next lunch break.
The first time I went, I had a torta with the pastor meat. It's the first time I've had a torta and definitely won't be the last. This time I got the street tacos and this place, hands down, has some of the best street tacos I've ever had. All the meats are seasoned well, it's hard to pick a favorite! The prices are also really good for what you get. I also got the horchata and it was delicious.
It's a little food truck in the parking lot of a marathon. Probably easy to overlook but don't! You have to try this place. There is also two (4? It's like two large picnic tables connected together) huge picnic tables with large umbrella's attacked for seating. The tables are clean and very nice.
Update: I just had the best burrito of my life. Try the burrito! It's divine! (I got it with carnitas, but you can...
Read moreFirst of all, let me say that I regret not getting a picture of my food before I started eating. Even just in a to-go box this food looked like it was about to throw down. These are the best tacos and quesadilla I’ve had in a LONG time. I’m disgusted with how good they were. And I’m mad. I kept saying for the past few months, every time we passed the food truck, “oh yeah, we need to try that place out! We’ll do it next week.” And I waited THIS LONG to go get this food that just smacked me into a food coma. I’m so sad. I’m going to have to fight myself not to drive down the road every day for lunch to grab some tacos. Everything was very reasonably priced for the amount of food you get. This has elicited such a broad emotional response from me I’m not sure what to do with the rest of my evening. A+, 100%, please if you read this review and have been saying “I’ll try them out soon,” don’t be like me and just go now. It was amazing. And to the Queen working the truck by herself, I’m not sure if you’re Valentina or her family member but keep doing your thang. I’m sending all my good vibes your way because you...
