We have come here for years when I come visit family. I’ve seen a turn over in their staff since they’ve been open and maybe even a change of ownership. Magnolia only had one other place here to eat when this place opened
Sadly they have lost their quality. I think there is so little selection in Magnolia they do not have to care. We ordered a side of guacamole and what was brought out was a relatively large portion (enough for 2 people), and it was in a bed of lettuce.
I figured they were just trying to be fancy. We commented, amongst the 2 of us, how the soggy lettuce was making the guacamole irritating to eat. We didn’t think too much more about it but agreed to tell them next time we don’t want lettuce in the guacamole.
I gave the waitress my card to charge it without reviewing a bill summary.
When I received the bill run through my card, i realized it was about $10 more than it should have been .
I requested they look at the ticket but we were never presented with an actual bill so we had to look up prices in the menu.
They defended that I should have questioned the size of the guacamole. (We go about every other month and do not have their dish sizes memorized). They brought the owner over to the cashier and he said no sorry you should know to ask if it is a large. (It was not even a large but maybe a medium).
the largest guacamole salad they offer is 10.00 then there is a medium and then the smallest is the side of guacamole is $1.99. (What we requested to accompany our meal). Even if they charged for 2 sides it would have been an effort to compromise. In my book it is tallied up with typical bad Texas business. They expect the customer to scrutinize the size of a dish or portion and keep the waitress in line.
This was very surprising as I am a business owner as well and always find a compromise if a client points out my employee misunderstood.
I do not tell my client they should have noticed we were painting their home with a very expensive zero voc paint that will cost them 4 times what they requested.
I asked the owner if he was sure he didn’t want to correct the bill. He said no.
So beware when you think you have ordered a side of guacamole. They sneak larger dishes in to up your bill.
My family nor I will be back and for that matter... we will not visit their...
Read moreI'm not entirely sure where all these positive reviews came from after this evening. This was my first and most definitely my last time here.
Let me just say - the host/cashier was phenomenal. My waiter - even though he was new - was great. The green and red sauce was amazing!
My first problem was the lack of cleanliness at our table. There was entire drink that was spilt under our table that had not been cleaned prior to seating us. My shoes were soaked and I had to ask for towels to put under the table to clean the liquid up.
Second and main problem was the food. Queso was watered down.. Could have looked passed it if the food would have been edible. There was 4 of us. The beef fajita was inedible. It resembled beef jerky- cold, hard and dry. Nothing I essentially wanted to put in my mouth. The chimichanga was 3/4 Flour and dry fajita meet. The pastor flautas were dried out pork in way too much flour tortilla. The beans in all the dishes were old and remnant of the day. The hard tacos were soggy and the guac was watery. The tacos was replaced for a less soggy taco that was just transfered into a different shell and not remade. The beef fajita taco salad was inedible completely with 0 substitute offered since the beef fajita was bad. The white queso I ordered for my salad also was separating and less than pleasant to palate. I also ordered a side of chicken Diablo and was brought some unidentifiable brown things on a plate in white I politely declined.
The poor waiter looked beyond embarrassed.
I went to the front to address my concerns with the manager who made excuses for why the food came out the way it did and offered to comp less than half my check after I explained the terrible food that came from the kitchen and the fact we ate little to nothing brought to us. I paid my bill though unhappy with paying for food that was inedible- tipped the waiter handsomely and left.
Moral....
Read moreI’ve visited three times in the past several weeks, here are my notes from each visit;
First visit: we were in a large party celebrating. We were helped by the wonderfully welcoming Humberto, a wonderful waiter. 4.5/5 stars
Second visit: me and my mom went alone for lunch, we ended up staying almost three hours and were once again served by Humberto. 5/5 stars
Third visit: me and my mom once again visited alone for lunch, we were served by someone else. My mom ordered the margarita special, 16 oz for 7$. She received a 18 oz jumbo because of the waiters mistake. My mother, unknowing that it wasn’t the special requested another when the manager checked in. Come to find out, her 2 “margarita specials” were not 14$ but 20$ because of the waiter. When we spoke to the manager about the price and problem, he took back the refill margarita and poured it into a 10 oz glass and the rest back into the machine. Two specials are suppose to be 32 oz, because of the manager my mom received 26 oz at best(the glasses were not being completely filled). Me and my mom did the math at the table with a cup to see just how much she was given because we were skeptical. When we found out we were jipped, she spoke to the manager once more. Mario, the weekend manager was sarcastic and asked if she wanted 6 oz of margarita, then proceeded to tell the bartender not to serve her any more because she was giving him problems. The only good thing about this was the bartender, Blue. 0.5/5 stars
