The drinks were AMAZING. However, the food not so much. I ordered a steak dinner with rice, beans, enchilada etc. I barely ate because I didn’t enjoy it. There were a few different things on my plate but VERY SMALL serving. To make matters worse, the rice was HARD and DRY. I was shocked as to how a restaurant could serve dry, hard rice. I mean ROCK HARD. I honestly did not eat anything off my plate. A RESTAURANT THAT SERVES OLD HARD RICE IS NOT TO BE TRUSTED. If they serve old rice, I can only imagine what else they try to “reheat”. Rice is so easy to make. Why use old rice? Anyway- Without being able to enjoy the rice or flavorless beans, I took the steak home in a takeaway box and made rice at home. The only good thing on my plate was the steak. It had amazing flavor. The bill was over 100 dollars for just two of us. (We ordered the same steak dinner) and each, one alcoholic beverage. I was very disappointed. My sister in law took me here for my Birthday dinner and neither of us ate anything off our plates. The only reason I did not complain was because I was being treated out for dinner and did not want to seem rude or ungrateful. But I will leave an honest review. Over 100 dollars for food I didn’t eat and steak that I took home, to make rice myself with. Not happy! The service was a bit slow as well. There were only 5 other people there but it felt like 50. The waiter took forever to come back to us. For drinks, food, bill ect. BAD.
EDIT- I received a response from the owner stating that “my review must be years old because the restaurant has changed so much”. My birthday was December 11 2021. My sister in law took me here THE WEEKEND OF MY BIRTHDAY - ON a SUNDAY. My visit was not years ago. Goes to show, this restaurant would rather call me a liar than to own up to their mistakes. Why not offer me a gift card? Or a reduced rate to come in and try your food again? Instead, they say I visited years ago. My birthday was in December. I will be asking my sister in law to leave a review along with my boyfriend as well. We were all served ROCK HARD OLD RICE. It was disgusting. They use old rice. Own up to your mistakes. I don’t lie on reviews. If it says I have written my review recently- it is because MY REVIEW WAS EDITED for typos. I am a google guide and take my reviews and views seriously. 100 dollars for bad food and...
Read moreA few weeks back, my fiancé and I, in the spirit of culinary adventure, decided to try out 3 Amigos Bar & Grill, a new Mexican joint tucked away in a cozy neighborhood. Its exterior was as inviting as a Hallmark holiday movie, promising a mix of authentic and modern Mexican vibes.
First impressions were on point: the service was snappier than a stand-up comedian, and the cutlery was charming in a "these-forks-have-personality" kind of way. I mean, who doesn't like cutlery with a bit of zest? The plating? Absolutely Instagrammable.
We went full throttle on the menu, ordering Guacamole, Shrimp Ceviche, a Carne Asada plate, Chorizo Enchilada, and a Flan for dessert. A real 'United Nations of Mexican Cuisine' situation. I've been around the California-Mexican block, so I was all set to put my taste buds to the test.
The Salsa and Chips were like the opening act of a concert, decent, getting the crowd (aka our stomachs) warmed up. But boy, the headliners did not live up to the hype. It was like expecting a Beyoncé concert and getting a performance by a Beyoncé tribute act instead.
While nothing was bad per se, the Guac and Ceviche lacked the punch of a Mexican wrestling champ, and the Carne Asada felt like it was on a flavor diet. My fiancé's Chorizo Enchilada, which decided to go all chunky instead of the classic ground style, was also missing a spicy kick.
Even the Flan seemed to be having an identity crisis. Not bad, but also like it was unsure about its place in the world of Mexican desserts.
All in all, I would call 3 Amigos the 'diet soda' of Mexican eateries. Not as bold as the full-fat version, but hey, it could be a good gateway for those easing into the world of Mexican cuisine. If your palette is more 'salt-and-pepper sitcom' than 'jalapeno action-thriller,' this might just be your spot.
Will I go back? I'm a firm believer in second chances. Maybe it was an off day, maybe they were trying a new recipe, who knows? I'm willing to brave it one more time. Here's hoping my taste buds get the Mexican fiesta they've...
Read more3 stars not because of food or drink. 3 stars because of how 3 Amigos in Malden is handling a PANDEMIC. Dining out is a privilege, one I don't want to lose because let's be honest, who wants to cook every night of the week? The food was fantastic, drinks were great! Even service was above average for places I've dined at recently. However, several women from one party CONTINUOUSLY got up from their table and walked to the bathroom, bar, etc. without their masks and made several other patrons feel extremely uncomfortable. Why is it fair for us to need to wear a mask into the establishment and until food is in front of us when servers and who I believe to be the manager allowed these women to WANDER around maskless? Not to mention how obnoxious and rude the party was to all other diners. Extremely, extremely loud. Had they been wearing masks or respectful and loud- sure, go for it. However, I truthfully believe any other establishment would have asked them politely to lower the volume and at the VERY MINIMUM to put their masks ON if they were walking around. We came here because El Potro was closed, I cannot wait until they reopen because I will not be returning here. Especially in...
